| Forest v Leeds today on 13:08 - Feb 5 with 1131 views | 3swan | Just had a similar conversation. In the last 20 years? We’ve picked up many bargains that have served our club well. Football that brought smiles to the faces of supporters as well as players. Everything seems strained and not fluid and not genuine teamwork that we have seen in the past. Rose tinted maybe but if players aren’t relaxed then team football is a struggle | | | |

Is it that incredible? Look at the squad value, that’s only brought them in line with the likes of Palace, Leeds and the others expected to struggle this year. He went up with the worst squad I can remember being promoted, there was a reason they were bottom of the championship when he took over. So they needed to overhaul their squad to bring it to a competitive PL level, the rest were pretty much already there or there shouts. What he has done is remarkable.

Actually I posted immediately when Johnson scored what a brilliant goal it was. Forest deserved their win today. Leeds were very poor.

| Forest v Leeds today on 23:52 - Feb 5 with 773 views | swancity | In a modern football world of fascination with stats, Steve Cooper is a refreshing change. He knows how to maximise the potential of his teams and yet is not obsessed with stats. Today Nottm Forest had 30% ball possession, only six attempts at goal, only 250 passes snd only half of those found a team mate and yet they’ve kept a clean sheet and won! It may not be pretty. But it’s effective. It wasn’t the Swansea Way of course but it’s a results business. Your team defend as one. You will not be welcome if you can’t give 100% always. And he’s worked hard to work his way up from being a young Welsh league player whilst coaching Wrexham under 19s. A top man and a great role model and example to all. | |

Steve Cooper loves his stats, but his metrics are far different to other managers. He’s a defensive minded manager so his metrics reflect that, he doesn’t care about possession or pass numbers. It’s about containing, fast breaks and finishing. Very much like Mourinho in that respect. Look at their last 5 Premier League wins as a demonstration of that. Leeds 1-0 win Leicester 2-0 win Southampton 1-0 win Palace 1-0 win Liverpool 1-0 win Zero conceded, 6 scored. That’s by design.

Mention for Martinez , not a popular name , I thought he was OK .

Martinez was more than ok, we would still be playing hoffball in league 1 or 2 if it wasn't for Roberto.

You seem to have either missed my point that Cooper is not obsessed with stats. The only one that really matters is the one that shows which team scorers the most goals. It matters not how it’s achieved. He is insistent that his team defends from the front, getting players behind the ball but with a view to a quick transition where possible but not to leave themselves open. Like all managers at that level of course he uses stats. But he’s aware that they have limited use and don’t ever tell the full picture. His achievements in the game since winning the World Cup with England are impressive to say the least. He’s also a likeable, “normal” character without a big ego who people take to. And yet not considered good enough by some know it all’s who follow Swansea City.
