Swansea City : There’s still time to build unity & trust with the fans 21st Feb 2023 08:00
According to a poll on the Swansea Independent website over sixty five percent of current season ticket holders will not be renewing their season passes under the current club regime. Some have cited the lack of investment in the club, others have stated their lack of faith in the head coach, Russell Martin. 1

Excellent article.

"Reality it is."

Once the normality of going to games is lost, then it takes a while to rebuild.

The odd discount tickets won't change the causes of why supporters stay away, whether it's for football or financial reasons.

Sobering read.
The owners need to realise the club would be nothing without supporters.
The players need to realise they would not be able to pull on the Swans jersey without supporters.
They need our support, but also need to earn it by actions off the field and actions on the field

I would take the poll with a pinch of salt!
I would suspect some votes were made by people who haven't got a season ticket for this season and/or don't go to games regularly.

Best gauge is to ask people you know who have season tickets and if they are renewing.........i have yet to hear that no one us renewing.

Follow up from my last post.

Fans don't realise how much harm they do by continually peddling bad vibes......it needs control, timing and delivery for it to be beneficial.

The club is the most important thing, owners and managers come and go.....its certainly a case of cutting ones nose of to spite their face especially ones who do it in the craving of being correct.

For me the rot is set and the fans are just helping the process speed up.

Id add to the that the manager needs to ensure we play entertaining football.

Personally if I was the owners I wouldn't have given Martin a penny in Jan.

Martin & Martin alone is the reason I am not renewing.

Yes I take most polls with a pinch of salt, as there's no guarantee a poll reflects all views.

In saying that it can be an indicator of views.

I will add though that it isn't all about the number of ST holders, as the question can still apply to who don't go regularly (and why)

We can't hide from the thoughts that the way the club communicate and what we see on the pitch isn't a worry, unity is being lost.

In the Silver shield and Petty times it did feel as if the club (not owners) and fans were united.

Covid aside, this season, I've seen the least amount of games live than for as many season as I can remember.

There was a unity back in the day because we were a smaller group(fans).
Our journey has brought our fanbase up in numbers, a lot of these fans jumped on that bandwagon and are supporting the level as much as the club.......they won't have the fight or passion and will walk away just as quickly as they arrived. This is why numbers will drop if we were to get relegated but we will always have that hardcore if a few thousand.

Personally I think the ability to stream matches has the biggest impact on ticket sales. Even season ticket holders sometimes miss the odd game and watch it at home. One of the reasons the attendance numbers don't match actual people in the ground.

I would recommend anyone able and financially in a position to get to games as often as you can, getting out and being able to socialise and watch games is tremendous for your mental health.
If you start watching games on TV and spending so much time on your phone etc then you will likely become negative and too easy to judge.

If you can guys and gals......go, can't beat a match day experience.

I agree with the comment about smaller numbers back in the day.

There will be some who only came due to the success the team was having.

But, in close to 20 years we have built up another group of fans who were very young back then. We all started somewhere and many will class it as their club whatever.

There will be a multitude of reasons, and putting aside the financial strains on spending power, the club has to do more to communicate better and a given that the games give fans a feelgood factor.

I would have hoped to have seen one of Levein or Kaplan in recent weeks after the transfer window joke.

They need to show that they atleast care a tiny bit.

The poll isn’t the driver, it’s the catalyst.
It tells us the way people feel, and it’s not just the poll or season ticket holders.

This is an emotive feeling that is running through the Swansea support, one hundred and fifteen votes isn’t a lot, but sixty seven percent are disgruntled and chose to vote in the negative, that’s the concern.

Maybe saying or doing nothing, says much more than saying/doing something.

They have so many other interests that we seem to be way down the list.

I can't subscribe to your point of view as valid you make it appear , it's human nature to complain and yet strangely enough we as a nation are known for staying silent stiff upper lip etc , I've not yet witnessed sustained booing at the ground ((something myself and I suspect the majority of support would do but it will happen and the Club, Manager, Team will have to deal with that aspect of the support )
I agree the Club is important, very important to the core not so to for many and has no significance for the remainder and that will always remain the case , we have very little(if any) input in how the Club is run and as you say a without us the Club wouldn't exist so our only voice or responses we have is voting with our feet or as seen in today's society , social media .The rot hasn't started with the fan base but imo equally shared by the Manager & ownership both past and present

I agree.
As easy as it is for me to go to matches, there are times when a warm house and a view from the sofa are more inviting than a cold wet winter's evening spent watching what sometimes can be poor fare.
I will be there this evening though.
Hope to see us get a second home win on the trot

Some are hardcore "disgruntled " , others are reactive to recent events.
If we won the next few games before the International break, then held a poll asking how supporters felt, IMHO the result would be a lot different.
We supporters are a very fickle lot.

I suggest if it I'd affecting your mental health then perhaps try not to take it so seriously?
The Swans are a big part of my life.
However my life isn't affected by events on or off the field.
My dog, partner, family, friends etc mean much more.
If we lose am I disappointed - certainly.
Am I upset, angry, does it ruin my weekend or week or even that day ? Certainly not.
Like many on here, been following them for most of my 61 years.
Learned to expect the ups and downs of football ( on and off the field ).
Ultimately out of our control and not worth stressing about

I just about renewed only because of peer pressure from kids. I looked into match day prices, but there is no way I would pay those prices. It was either buy season tickets or not attend at all.

Even when you know, you never know?

We cant get unity between the fans!

Despite my lack of faith in the manager I have renewed....dont always get to games especially night games these days due to work...not like the old days where I was there every home game including rainy Tuesday nights to watch us against Spencer Works and the like!

Similar as me, I look at the weather, especially mid week, I suppose that calls me a fair weather supporter but night games are a pain, especially winter

I feel like I want to punch Martins head in for half hour after most games..and his little turtle faced assistant...do I need a check up from the neck up...?

Never renewed two ST as I dislike Martins style of play and man management. I’ve been to a couple of games the last one being Swans v Bristol in the cup. I follow the club, why wouldn’t I, but the way the January transfer window unfolded…irrelevant who was at fault….didn’t make me want to head to the office to buy a ST.
I do admit that our interest in the club is waining and it’s not as important to us as it once was. Even in our hardest times I can’t remember being so ambiguous about the club.

If we won the next few games playing the same boring Martinball shite I still wouldn't renew.

He's done me which none of the previous 20 odd managers in my time following the Swans have.

I have seen some crap over the years but it was enjoyable crap, Martin's football bores me to death.
