Any member of the Government who decided that we needed such draconian rules when none of the evidence supported doing so also needs to be punished severely, and that includes devolved Governments. It's becoming increasingly obvious that basically every lockdown measure other than the initial one was an absolute and unneccessary disaster, most of all the decision to close schools and health services. Certainly there should have been none at all once the most vulnerable had received at least one dose of the vaccine.

The group of scientists who said protect the vulnerable as the effects of widespread lockdowns would be detrimental were ignored by the establishment and dismissed by the media. These scientists should be promoted in the scientific community. There were some politicians calling for similar measures and others who wanted a never ending lockdown. The costs of furlough in terms of debt interest are now a problem. A decent debate on the issue during the pandemic was sacrificed on an alter of media frenzy and political opportunism. The Covid Inquiry will probably ignore their views. https://www.bmj.com/content/37

I got to speak honestly if it hadn't been for Furlow I probably would have lost my job at that time, because there was no way I was putting youngest at risk by going to work, so I'll be forever grateful for that. Although my 60th was a damp squib cause we were locked down, but the important aspect to me was that I was able to keep my lad safe.

Now we are into hindsight land. At the time, few really knew what was the best course of action. People dying in droves panics people. When we found a “ cure” ,some doubted the efficacy . I can tell you the several families I know blighted by Covid deaths would disputed each Nisan measures were unnecessary The smart arses always think they are right Without furlough, without help, our country would have been trashed . Fact

Some restrictions, but mostly people were left alone. They emerged from Covid with an excess death rate not only lower than the UK, but also lower than the much lauded New Zealanders.

My view is that it is now a police matter. One question for Felix - is the young lady promoted to the Lords a Johnson daughter, a half-sister, or his latest bit on the side…?

Well it was OK, the Durham police investigated what happened and deemed it ok. On the other hand what Bojo did was found to be against the rules by the Met police which is why he was fined. To be honest members of the public got fined a lot more than Bojo so he really got away with it.

Completely different. Investigated and found it didn’t break rules. A quick meal at an office after an online event. Small numbers, no planning, no invites, no live streaming, no music, no party cake and no repeats. Plus of course they didn’t make the rules. For arguments sake let’s sat Harmen was biased. Did she force the 4 Tory MPs to complete the unanimous vote? How did she manage that? Next level whataboutary.

No need for a parliamentary enquiry, the police did the job back in the day and found there was no case to answer, I suspect Starmer knew what the rules were and made sure they were followed, unlike our former PM Boris who presided over a sea of sleaze and poor behaviour while families were unable to mourn loved ones. Good to see over a 100 Conservative MP’s showing some moral decency and back bone in supporting the findings of the Select Committee investigation, sadly around 200 of their colleagues did have the same moral talbot compass failed to vote while 6 actually voted against the findings which is unreal. Our PM was a noticeable absentee. It’s also worth noting that over 30 Conservative MP’s voted against Margaret Ferrier for 30 days after she’d been found guilty by breaching Covid laws. Seems Mogg and Cash didn’t see the need to suspend her for 30 days (thereby opening up the possibility of her constituents having a say on her future ) after she’d caught a train whilst Covid positive. Boris and Parliament were quite happy with the membership and structure up of the Select Affairs Committee before the investigation started. It’s only when Boris has realised the Committee take their duties seriously, are people of integrity who won’t turn a blind eye that he’s started kicking off. There was a Conservative majority on the committee, it comprised of several influential Brexiteers so this hogwash about being biased, remainer driven etc is complete rubbish. You’re peddling the same guff as the Daily Fail and it’s all drivel. Rabb the bully and Nadine Dorries, when is she quitting or is she pouting because her peerage has been put on stop. I can think of more worthy nominations for a peerage and the £350 a day in expenses. [Post edited 19 Jun 2023 23:42]

I suspect the 100 + who voted in agreement with the report did so with an eye on the next election, the ground swell of public comment and opinion polls would indicate there's going to be a lot of teras come the next election

It's amazing how quickly Johnson went from wanting the primacy of parliamentary sovereignty to be the be all and end all to calling it a kangaroo court. [Post edited 20 Jun 2023 11:34]

There’s a lot more of this to come too I reckon. They sat on the Allegra Stratton video for a year/18 months to have the maximum effect over Christmas. Then they held back more stuff whilst Boris squirmed and lied before releasing more that contradicted him. I imagine there’s a treasure trove of video, pictures, WhatsApp conversations just sitting in the Daily Mirror inbox ready to be released at the most opportune moment. Most of it so far has been to stick Boris in the frame and get him out, utterly destroying him. But the last couple of days it seems to be switching to the Tory party as a whole with these jingle and mingle leaflets. They aren’t new. They are almost 3 years old. But this stuff is only being drip fed out now. In the lead up to the election you can bet a lot more will come out involving the present incumbents. Rishi has been remarkably quiet on this issue. He knows he was fined for the same things Boris was but somehow got away with it. I would place money on there being photos or videos of him out there just waiting for the right moment. Starmer also hasn’t really gone for the throat as you expect he would have. It seems to me even the opposition are reluctant to really commit themselves to this. Perhaps they too are worried as to what could emerge?

Starmer will not give them a Brexit angle to attack him with. He figures that ensures Johnson cannot rile up his base support of pensioner yoons. Job done - Starmer is PM. I would much prefer him to be honest.

I said last year that Starmer should be going for his throat but was disappointingly quiet. others said he didn't need to do anything as Boj (seems more apt) and his crew were doing enough damage to themselves. I still think he should be going for it, even if he has something to hide.
