Dont forget the players we received are "fringe" players and possibly not under the microscope as much at their parent clubs, he could be talking match fit which is different to physical fitness.

The Dutch league started on 11th August, TJoe-A-On presumably had a pre-season. He's just 21, he may need one or two games to get fully match fit but as a professional athlete you'd expect him to be in pretty good shape at that age?
Someone like Joe Allen, older with a history of injury, you'd expect to need a bit more time and effort to get fully fit.

There are different levels of fitness, some coaches are satisfied with a lower level. How many times last season was the fitness of our squad questioned. Its just an acceptance of a player leaving a club with one fitness level moving to another with a higher requirement. No issues from me, I now we lost but you could see our fitness levels were higher last Saturday. West Brom were blowing out of their backsides with 15 to go and were happy to put the ball out anywhere to survive. Long term Duff needs a higher fitness level to implement his game plan. There were people calling Martin out before his first game because of his mediocre record at MK Dons and (unspokenly) the fact he wasn’t Steve Cooper. I guess that’s similar to your point re. early criticism of Duff.
Duff was quite rightly criticised for Saturday. We were woeful for an hour. He then compounded the performance by blaming everybody but himself.
He’ll sort it out I’m sure. A win tomorrow and last weekend will be forgotten. Especially if we play well. | | | |

Games are won and lost in the last ten minutes , how any professional footballer cannot be self disciplined enough to maintain a level of fitness baffles me , the endorphins levels created used to be enough for me to make me to train harder and longer , sadly those days are gone but what days they were . | |

Not giving him any stick, just thought it was a silly comment. Match fitness is one thing but these are elite clubs who have very high hopes for these players and have them on incredibly specific development plans. Patino played around forty games last year in a high intensity team who were battling for every point. Every other team in the division has made new signings and had a summer off. Everyone’s in the same boat. | |
