Shortages, Rationing and the BBC 18:09 - Mar 16 with 1575 viewsJACKMANANDBOY

So driving home this afternoon, I heard a series of interviews and presenter views on the possibility of shortages and rationing in the coming weeks on BBC Radio 4.

Of course the ' experts ' were ' ex-experts ' rolled out to promote the story.

Why create a story about shortages and rationing without the input of the people actually managing the resources?

And then panic strikes. There’ll be no pasta or toilet rolls very soon.

Heard an argument the other day for bringing back rationing to combat the modern scourge of obesity.

Bringing back some form of Home Economics into schools with the emphasis on food preperation from Primary onwards was also mooted...

Woolton Pie anyone ?

The local school where my kids went still teaches a form of Home Economics, it’s compulsory for both boys and girls up until the kids start their GCSE subjects.
I’d like to see lessons Home Economics lessons extended until kids leave school and I’d also like to see lessons on financial planning, budgeting, debt etc delivered.

That would be far to sensible for any government to bring in.

Lets force a language that will only be off of use to the minority of people in that country onto our kids instead.

Going back a long way (late 1960s) I seem to remember sitting a GCE O-Level in " Economic and Public Affairs", which I think included some useful information on personal finance and engagement with public bodies.

Yes, the very same, the home of the Earl of Woolton, Minister of Food 1940-43.

Woolton Pie was a vegetable pie made from allotment staples served with gravy, Dig for Victory and all that...

Morning M
Ah , I got promoted to the division whete Bishops House was located
It was “ Bobby friendly” / brew spek as Bishop Sheppard wanted close liaison with local community and he supported police efforts though very liberal thinking man
I met him several times and talked cricket . A lovely man , kind and genuine who vehemently opposed apartheid and would not even watch white Afrikaner power
He toured Australia early 60s and though a good fielder he famously dropped catches at vital times , one of which was Benaud
This was the occasion Fred Truman ( who hated amateur , gentlemen , southern , soft southern barstuds told him “Only time tha keeps tha hands together is on Sunday . Keep tha Bluddy hands together in future Reverend
He died about 20 yrs ago having moved to Wrst Kirby in retirement

Toff maybe but genuine lovely man

Anyway , northern gravy , lovely

Nothing wrong in teaching Welsh in Wales, in some parts it’s the first language.

Kids are bright, there’s no reason why they can’t be taught to hook, budget etc and be taught Welsh.

Not another language debate!
The most divisive aspect of Wales
People get piddled off when they are slagged off for learning it wanting to learn Welsh
Kids foreign languages should be just that

I guess if you can't speak or understand a language, it is by definition foreign.

We are Britain and speak English
A minority speak Welsh and Gaelic
They are not foreign as that refers to lands outside the Union
Ergo , French German Italian Dutch are foreign

Speaking Welsh does not help learn a foreign language as it’s such an old unique language
It aligns to no other language
It’s not enough to have a few words similar
A Portuguese can easily understand Spanish as 90 % of Spanish and Portuguese are similar or the same , eg Cerveja but pronounced very differently but reading is quite easy for Portuguese people but less so for Spanish vis a vis portuguese .
This is because Portuguese has significant pronunciation issues

Dutch and German share similar grammar as does Norwegian Swedish

Welsh is totally distinct

It was a tongue in cheek comment, which if you try it sounds like a foreign language.
