Bristol Airport lost their claim of unfair subsidy from CWL.

https://www.catribunal.org.uk/

Some legalese in n here but from what I can summise the case rested on two criteria..CWL was not being saved from going bust as it has back up funds and no subsidiaries were going to airlines themselves.

Good news for jobs in Wales. I have no time for silly parochialism.. It is one third on this way to Swansea.

1000s of jobs saved and an area protected.

Good news I reckon.

Gwyn it will change next month after the election. Two parties have said that they will withdraw the subsidy. One has said they wiii have a full review of the subsidy and act accordingly. One has said they will have a full review of all government spending and act to reduce wasteful spending. Only Labour have said they will continue the airport subsidy and they are going to be a minor party in the next Senedd government. There is going to need to be a coalition and parties will need to change some of their policies, nothing is cut and dry with the airport going forward.

Are Plaid against it, WR?

I’m surprised at that.

Plaid has said they will have a full review of all government spending and act to reduce wasteful spending. It will be interesting to see exactly what happens. Many in Wales feel that Labour have been manipulating figures and statistics to support past decisions, we will have to see what points these reviews raise. If I was a betting man I would say the subsidy would stay but massively reduced and if that was not financially viable in the long term a private buyer would be sought. If that fails the use of the airport would change possibly losing the loss making public carrier sector, but remain for other uses. Not all jobs would be lost.

Reform are English Nationalists who would naturally support Bristol Airport as best they can They would most probably try to abolish Welsh semi autonomy and close the Senedd saving a few 10s of millions disappearing into tax cut for billionaires.

Zia Yousuf came to Wales and I was pleased to see him. He however made a fool of himself by threatening a Welsh institution. We just accepted it as usual.

He did what you would expect from an English Nationalist party. Came to Wales and made threats..

I see nothing wrong with having a full review on all aspects of the airport. One has to ask why a regional airport in the South West like Exeter with half the passenger numbers can make a profit and was recently sold for £200M, yet Cardiff continually loses money and has to be subsidised by us. The days of Labour nationalistic BS are over and every decision is going to be questioned and rightly so. For too many years Labour have done exactly what they want with vanity projects and wasted our money, this is going to stop. I have no issues with Cardiff Airport as a facility but I do have an issue with us throwing good money after bad when it needn't be the case. For Cardiff Airport to survive it has to diversify, other airports do and turn a profit not a loss.

Just scan read the PC manifesto that was released today.

Interestingly, their education policies are very similar to Reform (with the noticeable difference that Reform would introduce the Academy programme to wales).

There’s some stuff I agree with and some I don’t, but I’ll wait for the workings behind the plans before I’ll say whether I like it or not.

Welsh people should support their institutions. Any foreign buyer would be interested to see "" customer loyalty". We need to back it ourselves a d everyone will be happy. A popular profit making airports providing jobs and apprenticeships in a growing business.

A popular profit making airports providing jobs and apprenticeships in a growing business.

There is the crux of the issue, the airport has never broken even let alone make a profit whilst under Senedd control. Why would anyone not be happy with a thorough review of the airports operational and management structure, its clear its needed. Possibly some are scared of what might be disclosed. The only thing growing is the debt, passenger numbers are still only 50% of 20 years ago.

They tell me it is essential for ancillary jobs in maintenance and Cargo flights. Wales cannot afford for this place to fail. A number of 4000 jobs depend in its presence it HG as been said.

A lot of motherhood and apple pie, two red flags for me; they want to increase the tax raising powers of the Sennedd and teach politics in schools (fcuk off to that).

Looking at what they’ve said about teaching politics and I can’t really see much difference to what’s been in place for the last 20 years - all about how democracy works and the political system. And of course it’s pretty impossible to teach history and geography without politics.

I can see the issues you have with tax raising powers.

Had a look at the Green’s Wales manifesto and it’s like reading a fantasy novel.

It’s difficult to judge the Reform one as it looks like it’s costings have been done by giving a haddock a crayon on asking it to do it’s best. That’s if you can find the costings which in most cases aren’t available, partly ‘in case someone steals them’. Proper magic beans stuff.

I imagine maintenance and cargo jobs will be secure, the review may find this is an area to develop to encourage profitability, as with the training school all these are employers. 4,000 job losses is just scaremongering and would never be the case, this is the sort of thing a review will analyse because many would stay and some would be transferable to Bristol (where many travel from to work at Cardiff). It may just find that currently management are concentrating in the wrong areas. Concentrating on budget airlines may be more profitable that tour operators, this has proved the case for some airports. Cardiff has a pilot school, possibly developing that would benifit both the airport and Cardiff/Swansea Universities. Only good can come out of a review. Why are you paranoid about it failing unless you already think there is no long term future for the airport, because that could well be the case if we continually have to subsidise it.

What prompted the fcuk off was the line ' teach politics and news '. A long time ago when I was in school there was not any politics and RE was a few bible stories which were parables really.

I see Plaid have not repeated their country of refuge stuff, which was utter nonsense because the budget for immigration is not devolved.

Looks like the Conservatives are the only party wanting to reverse the increase in Sennedd numbers and Labour are the only party not wanting a M4 relief road, interesting stuff.

With a hung parliament next month it will be very interesting. I see Drakeford has already thrown his hat into the ring to be first minister again. According to him it will be a coalition and the Senedd will need a first minister with experience. Will they never learn or understand the reasons why they are being thrown out, arrogance in the extreme. It doesn't say much for what he thinks of Eluned Morgan.

Did you not do Henry 8th? Or WW2? Demographics or agriculture in Geography.

Was there a head boy and girl? Or a school council? Or charity fundraising? Or citizenship classes?

These are the things that were and are being taught. The bit that gets twisted is because schools will have values around respect, tolerance etc. it’s gets picked up by bad actors as schools forcing ideology on kids.

In reality it’s more schools trying to teach children to be nice. Unfortunately in only takes one daft teacher criticise Farage or Trump for the Mail and GB news to fire up the hate machine. No excusing the daft teacher for a minute but the reaction is always disproportionate.

I do find it interesting that what they want to do to the curriculum is very Conservative 2015. Or what I’d expect and hopeful they’d learn the bits that didn’t work and the things that worked really well.

Any party not wanting to improve the road infrastructure into South Wales does not deserve 1 vote.

I see the Greens plan to reduce the M4 to 55mph.

Keep Wales poor & the left wing sheep will continue to vote for them.

The approx 1m people in North and Mid Wales are better served by Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool airports. Driving times to Birmingham and Liverpool from Aberystwyth (for example) are almost identical to the time for Cardiff.

If Cardiff wants an airport Cardiff should pay for it itself. Why should Welsh taxpayers North of Newtown fork out to subsidise a loss making venture that they'll almost never use? It's not their airport. It never will be.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
