This has a long history and it is linked to the 2008 banking crisis and Barclays Bank .
Back then Alliance and Leicester Bradford Bingley and Northern Rock went bust and were bought out. Lloyds was given a massive cash injection . Barclays Bank "found" some cash about £3 billion from their mates. UK Government in a mess was happy.
However in the following years this cash injection which came from Abu Dhabi was deemed illegal by EU laws. By the time the dust had settled the Any Dhabi people sold their holding in Barclays bank and made a chunky 100% + profit .
The suits in London can usually solve problems with a few meeting and hand shakes and acceptance that the illegal bail out although not technically legal did have a happy outcome and Barclays Bank customers did not lose their money . Happily Resolven was included in this.
Around this time Abu Dhabi interests reinvested their British profits gained technically out side the rules and sold their share and bought Man city and develop the whole area around it as a general good investor. Perhaps IK suits told them that as their gains in Barclays had some questions marks it might be wise for lots of reasons to put the profit back into UK. Everyone happy that that sticky situation was resolved.
The suits now have now another tine mess to resolve. Best to stay calm, no name calling not anger just find a solution everyone is happy with and crack on. |  |

The Barclays Bank case is very interesting and raised some interesting questions for Gordon Brown.
Barclays Bank was bailed out by a third party who took an interest in Barclays which resulted in a net gain for the third party.
Other UK banks were similarly bailed out by Gordon Brown who did not offer himself any recourse for bailing them out.
The banks have recovered, now making billions again, but the tax payer is sitting on top of a pile of debt created to bail them out. | |
