False 9 tonight? 10:08 - Jan 3 with 878 viewsTheResurrection

I personally think this would be our best move.

It's the shape we've looked most solid in and whilst too many were looking to batter Bradley for anything under the sun, that first 70 minutes against Palace down here was pretty bloody decent.

We were compact and the better side growing into the game all the while, even before Llorente came on. I remember everyone moaning about the no striker before the goals were scored but had that game finished 3-1 and it could have and should have it would've been text book stuff. Kept it tight, earned the right to play our way into the game and make the impact sub to change it.

We all know what happened next and all know that was a freak 20 minutes you don't see very often. This will also give us a chance to have Siggy, Fer, Barrow and Routs (yes, Routs) as the front 4, so arguably our best blend of work rate, positional discipline and possession players. Fer has goals if he could be allowed more freedom to come into the box late a la Michu and we could build a solid platform behind them with Llorente ready to come on when needed.

Pick holes in that you mugs....

Fab

Naughton
Maws
Fede
Kingsley

Jay
Leon

Routs
Fer
Barrow
Siggy

Looking at that line up I'd love to change Jay or Leon with a real midfield dog, Siggy with a hold up striker, our wingers with pace and purpose, our full backs with tough tackling engines with forward abilities, a no nonsense centre back who can keep a shape and a number 10 that can create and go past a man.

Fack we're almost doomed. Let's hope Bayern have a few kids who fancy a real football challenge.

I'd be happy with a false nine....instead of the false 11 we have been playing the last couple of seasons, at least that's two real players on the field.

The false 3, 4 and 5 also concern me.
7 at times, and the 8,9 and 10.
1 is a concern as well. And 2.
6 too.

All the formations in the world are meaningless if defenders can't or won't do the basics, the most of which is actually facing the ball instead of cowering away from it.

We ve a proven history of both full backs allowing wide men to stroll past and cross a ball .

Tonight ,it's Zaha with Benteke to bully our wimps in the middle.

Be nice to see Fab man up for once and show some real interest

Our bigger problem is allowing the big target man to roam out wide and be up against our full backs. We never seem to learn from this.

I think you're talking about the Boro game, however, and that first goal was all down to Siggy. No more no less.

Unfortunately not. He has special dispensation to play against us before leaving for Africa, which translates to special dispensation to take a dive and earn a penalty against us.

------------------------- Fabianski -------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
------- Mawson ---- Van der Hoorn --- Amat -------------
------------------ Cork ------------- Leon -----------------------
Naughton -------------------------------------------- Kingsley
------------------- Fer ------------- Siggy -----------------------
-------------------------- Borja -----------------------------------

Subs; Nordveldt, Fernandez, Taylor, Fulton, Montero, Routs/Dyer and Barrow.

Bring Barrow on as a STRIKER with half an hour left...possibly paired with Borja and only 1 playing in the hole (depends on how it's going).
If Fer is injured give Ki a go there further forward.

Bench logic:
Nordveldt - self explanatory
Fernandez - covers the 3 centre-halves
Taylor - covers left and right wing-backs (Cork could play right wing-back as well...allows us to switch to 4 at the back if the situation demands
Fulton - covers Cork and Leon
Routs/Dyer - covers out wide or plays in behind the striker/s
Barrow - FFS give him a go up front.

Mawson needs to be dropped for his own good.

He's too wet behind the ears for this level yet.

Have we tried the FF / VdH combo yet?

I seem to disagree with Resurrection quite a lot, but that's a great opening post.

Only bit I'd disagree with is it should have stayed 3-1. It didn't because we went overly defensive and invited them on to us. That's in the past now though and I'd completely agree a compact false 9 formation with the ability to play a bit at the right times is the way I would go as well.

I think you are right, although I like Mawson, he will be great contribution to the team in the championsship, should we go down..

We tried FF /VdH for just 45 min in Peterborough match, conceding 1 goal.. Being up 3 already though, so not much to go by. Would give this a shot tonight
