The only times Clucas has played well is when he was played in his natural position of left inside winger - like those performanes where he made those delightful curving runs and scored (e.g. Arsenal).
The issue is sucessive managers have played him there about 1% of the time he has been here.

His only good games were against Arsenal, a team more flaky than us when it comes to defending, that kind of tells us something.
Who else were bidding for Clucas for us to get to £17m ? As far as I could remember we were the only ones !
That deal sums up the utter waste of multi millions by us, the only reason for this signing is a big brown bag of money which probably would have suited us and Hull City.
Huw wouldn't go to £10 m for Joe Allen but goes out and pays £17 m for a donkey nobody else was interested in, something Aint right with this deal .

Clucas was a record signing for us but has done nothing in his career .
Andre Ayew is/was a proven goal scorer and international who has played in the top teams in France and done well there as well as here .
Take his injury record away at West Ham and his goal tally was not that bad .
One was at least a proven premier league player the other wasn't .

What was shocking was us signing an injured player who then came into a poor team with the manager not sure how best to utilise his skills.
Please don't even try to compare Clucas and Ayew here, Sam spent the first few months hiding on the field ! Ayew has given everything he could , in a perfect world we'd have signed neither but at least with Ayew you can't question his work for the team . | | | |
