There's plenty of unemployed and due to be released prisoners that could have been given these jobs.

Even the military.

There always are these jobs which cannot be filled by UK nationals on the wages offered. Hard work for minimum wage-no thanks is the reply you get. Hence the need for Eastern Europeans who will graft to get what is a better wage than they would receive at home. Seasonal job. make some money then return. Same in many agricultural sectors that need labour-chicken catchers, poultry processing, veg and fruit picking.

I think we've gone soft as a nation Prof.
75 years ago the whole nation was "digging for victory''

A very fussy, and "I'm too good for that job" nation we've become unfortunately.

Plus if we flew overseas for work now, how would we be received (if it was possible to fly)

Look at Gordon Ramsey down in Cornwall, he's getting shít , but if facts are correct he was already there before the lockdown.

Watched an item on the news yesterday about Asylum seekers, relying on food give aways, surely these people could be used, pay them the living wage.

I'm sure that's better than what they are relying on now.

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

I think it's very humane to make meals for asylum seekers, I just hope the elderly, sick and mobility limited have this as well.

Rich and complacent. Someone else can do that whilst I sit on my backside. Will be interesting in times of soaring unemployment if people will do these jobs when they truly need a job. All are physical and unpleasant. Even dealing with small numbers of chickens experimentally is hard going.

No. But a few months ago they only wanted professional workers coming into the country. Now they want the fruit pickers back.

Why are the pickers so badly paid for what is hard work? What would happen if they had a 30% wage increase? I bet their wages are a small proportion of the final price paid by the consumer. Who’s profiting?

We asked for pickers a few weeks ago. We couldn’t get enough people here who wanted to do it.

It was either fly people in or chuck away food and risk food shortages.

If you’re cooking it there’s no need to wash.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

You'd think people would learn, going against me just makes you end up looking foolish in the long run

btw what thread did I make that alcohol post in? Surely no-one disagreed with that, did they?

I'll just check with Captain Tom to see how he voted and when he'd be available.

PS, once more for the hard of understanding, we didn't vote to leave Europe, we voted to leave the EU.

We get our fruit and veg delivered by Riverford, it's organic and rreally does taste better than the suermarket stuff, lasts longer too and yes, it gets washed.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Ay up continental drift seems to have put a shift on

If we have a choice why limit ourselves to Europe, Pangaea would be more egalitarian.

Failing that my vote goes for Oceania

Will the relocation of our landmass work like up.

I pictured it more like Dad's Army but with the Union flag arrows pushing the UK away from the European 'hordes'

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?
