Consider the last three seasons under Clement/Calvalhal, Potter and Cooper. If you consider Andre Ayew as the last meaga sigining what has scouting and recruitment achieved?. Ayew was known to the club in advance of his signing.
He was signed on Janaury 18. That is over two and a half years ago. I hereby postulate that the club has made only two automatic external pick signing in that period. Jamal Lowe and Bidwell.
All of Potters permanent signing have failed to become establish first teamers:
Celina, McKay, Asoro, Dhanda, Govea and John
Coopers signings are as follows
Bidwell, Peterson, Smith, Lowe.
Swansea's best players were all picked by the academy scouts not the first team scouts. Of the 10 players brought in only Lowe and possibly Bidwell is guarenteed a place. [Post edited 7 Sep 2020 16:26]

It’s not surprising though given that our Club are looking at free transfers, players out of contract and obviously the loan market which Cooper has used to very good effect
It’s a sign of the times at SCFC I suppose which makes criticism of the first team management unfair at the moment in my view. That could change as this season unfolds as our squad looks quite a bit weaker than that which finished last season without notably Brewster Gallagher and Van Der Hoorn especially

Since Clement / Calvalhal the club has two first teamers out of 10 signings in two and a half years. I see talk of databases, spreadsheets, processes software vast expeience elswhere but all I have seen is seriously unsucessfull permanent signings. 20% only good enough for the first team. The Scott appointment was to change all this but the signs are not good so far. | |

My post was approached form a club point of view, not to apportion blame to Potter Clement Cooper managers or receritment chiefs Ledbetter, the Scotsman or Scott. Not even Jenkins or Birch. On forums this is probably a novel concept!
If I was the new chairman I would want to know why the recruitment people cannot find 3 or 4 good free or low cost transfers. Swansea cannot afford managers that only pick their own players and must improve the likes of Dhanda and Asoro. They are young enough to make dramatic improvements. | |

Yes - local academy products with hard work ethos.
Nobody should now come in under first team level.
We cant afford the failure rate now.
As a Cat1 academy we still preferred Liverpool and Chelsea young players. Thats a reality check. Why don't we trust our own Academy ?.
Contacts are clearly very important.

Blackburn want £1m for the defender Williams. Over a two year contract that is equivalent to £10k a week which could have kept big Mike vDH at the club or be a decent offer for Ayala who could not get that in Spain. | |

MvdH was never going to stay in the Championship, and I don't blame him moving on to experience top flight football in another country.
He'll be lining up this season to play against the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen etc, and playing against the likes of Leroy Sane, Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski etc.

But he won’t be up against those players every week and just like La Liga and the Premier Leagud there isn’t much difference between the bottom half and the top half of the league below.
MVDH hasn’t ever let SCFC down in his 100 plus league games including those in the Premier League. . At 27 he’s at his peak and at 6’3 or 6’4 with powerful heading ability and decent enough on the deck he’s good enough to hold his own undoubtedly. Whether the rest of his team are is another matter.
