Some won’t like this, but some will. Automatic promotion. 12:33 - Dec 29 with 1133 viewsNotLoyal

With 25 matches to play.
Having played 21.
Points to date 39
Points to play for 75
Total 114 points on offer.

My assessment is if we gain the same amount of points as we have to date over the next 21 matches that leaves 4 extra games to play for until the end of the season. This will give us 78 points. Easily a play off. Win two of the remaining four and its automatic promotion.

To get to automatic we will need to win ( no draws in this ) 45 points from the 75 on offer. That’s 15 wins from 25 games to come, there will obviously be draws. This will give us 86 points.

Without draws we can afford to lose ten games, obviously the draw factor isn’t included.
I’m no mathematical genius, so correct me if I’m wrong, ‘it’s only a stat, and a talking point that’s all. But we seem to have an ever increasing margin of error. Which makes the next four games most important.

OK I've changed it.

To date Swansea has not beaten any of the relegated teams nor the main other teams Brentford and Reading which are most likey to form the final top 6. If Swansea can beat one of these it woild be a good indicator. Cardiff and Stoke have been beaten convingly and could come ito the mix.

If we keep the same sort of defensive tightness throughout the rest of the season we’ll break all sorts of records and it will put us in a fantastic place. There was an article the other day that the record for goals conceded in the football league is something like 0.65 per game and we’re currently running lower than that. Obviously there’s a long way to go but if you don’t concede you can’t lose.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

MGW will effectively be a new signing. If he comes back into the side with the same impact he had first time around that'll be massive for us. If we can keep Lowe in the same kind of form, keep Ayew fit and add a bit more quality up front (sorry Vik) then who knows?

We've already got tough away fixtures at Norwich and Brentford out of the way and can count ourselves unlucky not to have got something out of both. Our home form is markedly better than last year (the big difference this season IMO) so if we can keep that up we're in with a shout.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Fair assessment of the current position, for me we don’t score enough goals (or test the opposition keeper enough) & whilst Lowe’s current form/finishing is encouraging plus MGW imminent return being a good positive if we do not add any January firepower I think play-offs is the best we can hope for - Norwich, Bournemouth & Brentford all carry a stronger & more varied threat with Watford, Stoke, ‘Boro & maybe Reading battling for top 8 spots.

Outside that group Bristol City look like the only other real threat but they tend to be very inconsistent.

For me the pecking order is Bournemouth then Brentford then Norwich (not quite the same as the league table), can we finish above two of those three.
We need to beat Brentford and Norwich at home then I think it's on.

Our away performance at Brentford was the marker. It piqued the attention of not just the top 6 when Frank sang our praises. Some of our most critical fans began to wonder and hope.

Cooper needs to raise his game to get the very best out of our talent. You can almost taste the potent latency in our squad. For me it’s writ bold when Grimes checks back too much; when Smith plays; when Roberts and Bidwell tuck back in; when Big Ben scuffs a half baked long ball.

We seem too stymied. It’s almost like the manager is holding us back as his personality is being stretched into uncomfortable places. We need Trunds alongside him to unleash our potency (and maybe our manager’s).

All so intriguing at this juncture, in so many ways.

We once won a league title scoring 46 goals from the same number of games. If you don't concede many then you will win a lot more games than you lose even if you do struggle to score goals. This is backed up by the fact that despite scoring only 25 from 22 games our +13 GD is the third best in the Championship.

Agreed. The Hollins method certainly worked for us back in the day. Now though we’re two divisions up and playing much better football than in those days.

MGW’s return will light the touch paper of our attacking potential , bringing Bidwell and Roberts into the attacking third even more than they are now. We will have frightening options in midfield should all our lads stay fit until the end of the season. If we add a Brewster type forward to enable us to rotate our strike force we will definitely make play offs , more likely top two. Exciting times.
