Are Welsh Labour going to come out as pro independence ? 12:24 - Mar 14 with 1077 viewstrampie

I keep hearing rumblings of pro independence sentiment from some Labour members I wonder if at some point in the future if they will come out as full on indy ?

I don't see it happening very soon. I think Welsh Labour are too reliant on gaving Westminster to blame when things go wrong.

If they support Indy and we choose to go Indy then they get back in, they'd have no one else to blame. I suppose for 10 years or so they could still blame historical problems caused by "English Tory" governments but that wouldn''t wash forever.

I'm waiting for Rhun ap Iorwerth's reply to my indy questions. When they come I might try asking the Labour person for their views and compare thm to Plaid.

I've been arguing against indy but for a while now I've been starting to think that if nothing changes, if Welsh Labour keep winning and then whining it Westminsters fault that maybe we need Indy to give the Senedd the powers and see how they do.

We're not going to see Wales change for the better under the current system. Maybe we need the Weslh government to have complete responsibility and be held entirely accountable, have no one else to blame?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

If they did there would no longer be any point in Plaid existing.

Indeed, not sure there is much point anyway, the way people are entrenched in their political voting.

Many are changing.

Clearly they cant vote Johnson.
Clearly they could not vote Corbyn.
Starmer was a maybe, but his fixation with not upsetting the northern constituencies has made him irrelevant.
Welsh Labour are a branch office of a unionist party.
UK Labour has lost Scotland.
They dont want to lose Wales as well.

So what for Wales ?
Vote for Wales, vote Plaid.

It isnt likely the Welsh Labour Party will support independence. It is the one major difference in policy between Labour and Plaid Cymru. Labour is largely a unionist party not an independence party. The comments Drakeford made are in response to the Tory Government's policy to think it can over rule devolution and decide for example to push through the M4 relief road against the Welsh Government's opposition.

Plaid, SNP, SDLP exemplify British values as identified by the left and try and protect the British welfare state from the right wing that holds sway in the shape of the Conservative and unionist party.
Labour need to wake up, England is a lost cause, the only way the Celtic peoples of these lands will get socialist policies they vote for is by gaining independence and breaking away from that lost cause.

Plaid should certainly benefit from Labour' s utter incompetence and deceit as regards Wales. Throw in Conservative insouciance and it leaves hobson's choice. Incompetence v Class warriors. What an utter shytefest.

The issue is just how much is England and the English hated? Enough to want to break away into the great unknown? Good luck with that.

If I were English,I would want nothing more than to knob off both Wales and Scotland .It's how many in Eng/Scot feel, possibly more so.They is a stream of hate coming from the west and the north .

I'm heading in that direction too. What have Labour done for us?

Take my local Council as an example, Labour run. we live in Skewen and my council tax is set to rise again. Many councils have frozen this tax because of the effects of the pandemic, mine is set to rise by 3.1% (higher than inflation) depsite the Senedd giving them more money also.

A house in the same band in Mumbles pays less council tax than us, our annual bill is 2,060 but in Mumbles it's1,808 apparently.
Our police bill has risen too. In 10 years the police bill has risen by 87%, council tax by 45% yet all we see is cuts, fewer police (no wonder people don't feel safe on the streets) and reduced services but the price keeps rising.

We do need change but the Abolish group isn't a realistic choice. I think it'll have to be Plaid.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

You think Plaid will tax you less?

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

No, I always expect to be taxed more, I'm just wondering if Plaid will spend the money better? Lets face it, they couldn't make much more of a mess than Labour and if they did maybe people would think twice about indy or abolishing the senedd, sometimes it's one step back but 2 forward.

The house band difference isnt due to the assembly. This is a longstanding issue due to moving from West Glamorgan to separate councils. The council flats down the road from my were paying higher council tax than the detached houses opposite years ago. One is in Neath Port Talbot which has higher rates than Swansea and only a road separates them.

I had a discussion about this many years ago. I used to work with someone who was a County Councillor in the Afan Area. The district councillors wanted to go the present system. He wanted to keep the County Council system as the rates in NPT under the old system were heavily subsidised from within Swansea. He was warning of the danger but others ignored it. He knew the consequences of going away from the county council were

I never said it was the Senedd but it is still Labour run.

I've moaned about council tax before, it is even more unfair than poll tax was and there were riots about poll tax.

A house down the street the same size as ours has 5 people living there against our 3. We don't put the full array of bins out every week, we recycle, try to keep waste down. Menawhile up the road they put their bins out every week and because they live on a corner they put bins out on the other street too. I've seen them do it. They produce far more waste than us but our tax is the same.

Why do we put up with it?

Anyway, I think it will be Plaid in the (probably misguided) hope they will be better.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?
