The right tactics but Swansea City had no energy and no desire at all 17th Aug 2021 22:22
Another frustrating night for Swansea City as their opponents Stoke City had more desire and more energy to take the points at the Swansea.Com stadium. 0

Not sure about the "right tactics" part, and based on Martin making a first half sub neither was he.

We got it badly wrong from the off. Wrong players picked in the wrong positions. I'll give massive credit to anyone who can definitively state what role Fulton was supposed to be playing.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I’m sort of seeing his point, the tactics would work if we had the energy and desire to put them in to practice. Oh, and a few players who don’t play walking football.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

I thought Dhanda was a bad choice for this, he's on a hiding to nothing against a team of bruisers.
I know there is a lot of work to do and we need to be patient but still, there was no movement when we had the ball, the passing was slow, laboured even and without the ball we were like statues making it easy for Stioke.

Their first goal was poor marking at the set piece, their second goal was a major feck up.

Martin wants Grimes to be a 'quarterback' but he comes so short for the ball we end up with 3 players within 10 feet of each other and Grimes facing our goal being closed down quickly and no pass on. They put quick pressure on us and it paid off.

Laird and Piroe have to start for me. Latty isn't up to that role but Laird looked handy. Piroe at least gives us a physical presence up front. Fulton looked lost.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

They’ve all looked a bit lost in those roles behind the striker - Fulton, dhanda, Cullen and paterson to a certain extent. They’re not forwards or midfielders - just link players who don’t get the ball.

This is Patches O'Houlihan saying "Take care of your balls, and they'll take care of you."

Fulton seemed to be pushed out on to the wing and was instructed to just keep the ball and just give out short tippy tap passes., shocking tactics, which didn't work. Not looking good folks

.

Desire, energy, belief and bouncebackability were hallmarks of our 'Edge' the last two seasons.

We're regressing not just from a tactical and physical perspective, but also from an EI (Emotional Intelligence) perspective. Poor selection, poor man-management, poor subbing tactics.

The tactics of passing backwards and sideways in a system with no wingers or penetrating attacking midfielders? Then the long punts up to Bidwell when 3-1 down.

Sorry, but the tactics certainly weren't right.

Desire, energy...we had none of those under Cooper for months. If we went behind the game was lost so that means no bouncebackability either. It's just more fawning over Cooper. Belief, I'll give you that one. If we kept a clean sheet we believed we might pinch a result but that was all.

We aren't regressing, we are learning a new way with several new players and hopefully a few more to come. Martin is rotating selection to see which players deserve a go and which need loaning out or selling on. It's not an easy job given the state of the squad he inherited.

It's not very good right now because he has such a big job to do.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Jesus any muppet can pass it sideways and backwards all day ,if you want to play this way you have to pass and move make triangles but if in space do not pass for passing sack
We picked up balls and not once looked to drive forw@rd with the ball grimes being the worst culprit
No decent balls played to the forwards at all ,as this bloody idiot of a manager has admitted sq pegs in round holes ,does not work ,well you put them there
No excuse as a professional for feckin about with the ball, under pressure taught as a kid to get rid of it for safety not play it to another player under pressure

It was the movement, or rather lack of it that was the big problem. Statues move as much as we did tonight. It needs sorting but it's too soon to write them off.

Very true, some time has to be given and it might take about 10 games to see if it's starting to work( hopefully we do pick some points up). We have had a disrupted pre season, 5 experienced players out Fulton not available till last night. New players need time to bed in along with the team playing to a new formation and style. The new coaching staff have been here 2 weeks and we have had 4 games, if you take out travelling time etc there hasn't been much time for training. There is the case that some players won't be up to what's required so the end of the month can't come soon enough.
