If you test positive to a lateral flow you don't need to take a PCR test now just isolate for a week FFS people are abusing the system as it is now the bloke really is a first class k nob

Well I watched the breakfast news and considering its no worse than flu there's a lot of hospitals declaring an emergency, including Morriston.

It's no worse than flu for most of us maybe but for the unlucky few...

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Lateral Flow Tests are very unreliable, Gillian Keegan the Government Minister is talking them up ahead of a potential move to do away with PCR’s after a positive LFT. I reckon this is cobblers and a cover for the fact that the PCR testing regime is unable to cope at the moment which they won’t admit because it destroys their credibility. Didn’t the Ospreys recently test their squad to find 18 members of staff who’d provided negative LTF’s were positive on PCR.

If the lateral flow tests are accurate then what is the point in a PCR test? it just wastes money which the country has bled during Covid. Smoke mirrors and BS.

Edit- and it will allow the shirkers to further manipulate the system.

They are not particularly, but are useful in picking up asymptomatic and early stage infection. Infection levels are so high now, that other than testing symptomatic cases (ie. where we were March/April 2020) is a waste of time doing PCR tests. The whole thing has been badly communicated including the need for two negative LFTs to end isolation.

Sorry prof but even a GP my wife spoe to said they were very unreliable so how can that be useful? Our next door neighbour tested negative twice by LFT but had a positive PCR in between (in juts 3 days, she did the second one to see if the LFT worked after getting her positive result) and if people don't trust LFT's people aren't going to bother.

There is a facility to upload home lat flow test results to the NHS app - maybe employers should insist that it is mandatory to upload result and provide photographic evidence of test. Not perfect but it something. You can also request what is effectively a doctors paper for your absence. I can’t see too many people trying it on to be honest.

Cat-the work done here in Liverpool showed the utility in picking up asymptomatic cases (they are about 80% reliable overall though more usually false negative where viral load is low) although Jim found the reverse in all honesty if you are LFT positive then 9/10 you will be PCR positive too. Since confirmed infections are 200K a day now and PCR testing is getting overrun, having a positive LFT is sufficient to self isolate. Remember this is asymptomatic not symptomatic infection, most( probably all) of whom are fully vaccinated-half my lab is down at the moment. Would not surprise me if there are 4 million or more people infected in the UK as we speak. ONS suggested 1 in 25 in England last week, so not much of a jump to that.

All I can say is without vaccines we would be under strict lockdown. Omicron is mild in the vaccinated. Finally Johnson had the balls to call out the idiocy of not being vaccinated.

I think everyone has been calling out the idiocy of not being vaccinated.

To be fair to Boris, as well as Drakeford, and Nicloa, they have been calling for everyone to get vaccinated since last January starting with the vulnerable, then NHS workers and residential home workers then over 50s, then over 21s then over 18s and then over 12s. Then of course the Boosters.

If people have not got that message by now there really is no hope for them .

Thankfully the vast majority have had theirs and the UK has just about the most successful vaccine and Booster rollout in the World.

Poll: Sholud Wales rollout vaccination at full speed.

I tell you why that is,its because staff are getting tested positive for something no worse than a runny nose, and they got to isolate..so staff shortages,,if it was seasonal flu people could just get on with it...but with this you got isolate which is crazy and that's what's pushing hospital's to breaking point lack of staff ,for some even no symptoms at all but still goy isolate..

It’s no worse than a runny nose or flu - yeah tell that to the people in their 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s in ITU’s and Covid Wards who are on ventilators and CPAP receiving additional oxygen so they can breath. 80% of the patients on these wards are unvaccinated.

Hospitals are places where the unwell go, people suffering from all sorts of illnesses and conditions including cancer, heart problems, lung issues and a myriad of their issues. Hospital staff are tested and have to self isolate for good reason, if they have it or there is a good chance they have it they can spread the virus to the patients who could die. It’s as simple as that really. The fact they don’t have symptoms doesn’t mean they don’t have the virus.

Delta caused high levels of hospitalisation-up to 10% of those infected
Omicron does not. But even 1% of those infected hospitalised is 2,000 per day.

Therein is the problem. Infections have doubled in over 50s in a week.

Wales has a high vaccination rate, but a significant number (approximately 80%) of the patients who are in the Covid Wards receiving the most intensive treatments are unvaccinated and in their 30’s,40’s,50’s and 60’s, - there are vaccinated patients too but they tend to have underlying issues. It's not a minor cold like you’ve described.
Wards down our way have also flitted between Covid and non Covid.

I’ve seen reference being made that in terms of illness the Omicron variant presents a similar risk to the aboriginal Wuhan variant albeit it’s much more transmissible while the Delta variant is a much nastier virus. Lets hope we’ve seen the last of the latter.

Seriously we need to get a plan in on place how we are going to manage this in the long term. Covid is going to be with us for a long time in different variants and all the UK need to be singing off the same sheet.

Why follow the EU slow vaccination programme. They are still way behind the UK total vaccination rate despite approving the vaccine first.

UK vaccination rate per 100 people 201 (5th in tye World)
EU vaccination rates per 100 people 166 (35th in the world)

Uk figures from Tory HQ are not to be trusted.
Just like his covid parties and cash for access.
