| John Bishop Chat show on 14:01 - Jan 10 with 805 views | Catullus | I managed about 3 mins of it. Many comedians are struggling these days, too scared for people to see their material maybe? In the face of cancel culture and not being allowed to cause offence, would they be right? I did see a news story about Comedy dying, Maureen Lipman was it? | |

One I'm travelling about for work I often listen to radio 4 & 4 extra for its comedy element and if what is broadcast now passes for so called main stream comedy then it is surely is dying . Abysmal and maybe only funny to those who write because it leaves me cold

True comedy is dead, a joke said today, even though it is deemed acceptable to the woke society, may not be tomorrow, which will probably be the end of your career.

Your afraid to make a joke today without the righteous brigadd getting their nose in and being offended,,that's the best part of jokes offending others

Even Mick Flanagan had to rewrite his last tour script. It’s appalling.

I listen to R4X every night for the ‘comedy’ and you are absolutely right. Some really is just not funny and how they get their work commissioned is bewildering. Some of the better comedy is really old stuff like Radio Active and also Andy Hamilton’s comedies such as Old Harry’s Game and Revolting People. The woke culture is ruining comedy which is why I really like a lot of Ricky Gervais and Jimmy Carr who seem not to give a ….

I listen to Radio 4x in the mornings when they have a classic hour of comedy , nothing smutty ,offensive but enjoyable innocent comedy but regardless always presented with the proviso warning of it being recorded when attitudes were different , and rightly so , Tony Hancock was right offensive b****r. IMO one of the funniest and I'm surprised it was allowed by the BBC were the Janet & John stories told by Terry Wogan , brilliant writing.

Seeing comedy live is totally different. A good live event the comedian feeds off the audience and it can get spicy with heckling.
