| Ah well 01:10 - Feb 18 with 1349 views | Jack123 | Lads, I succumbed. Lasted nearly 6 weeks, hasn't been that bad really. I have learnt a thing or two. I intend to do it again. And hopefully can go a little bit longer next time. Cheers for all the replies before, they will keep me motivated. Thanks also to Fireboy for recommending a good series to watch Fargo he said, I tell you what it's a cracker! Kept me occupied in the nights. It's on Netflix, first 3 seasons.. Very good. This is only a blip, head down and start again, hopefully the blips will be further away as you improve. Nothing is easy but it will be worth it. You are an inspiration. | | | |
| Ah well on 10:22 - Feb 18 with 1214 views | Catullus | Unless you actually are alcoholic there's no need to give it up completely. I wasn't an alcoholic but when I did get drunk I just went to far, got too drunk. I didn't crave the stuff, I didn't need it. The longer I went with having hardly any the easier it got. Now I don't miss it and I have had 5 pints in total across the last 4 home games and nothing else at home, not been to the pub otherwise. Do you need to give up or do you just need to learn more self control? Have you spoken to your doctor about it? Personally, I recognised my drinking was heading towards being a problem and nipped it in the bud before I got to the worst point. Recognising and accepting you have a problem is a massive step on its own. | |

A lot easier to say than do though if you have an addictive tendency. I used to drink a lot but like Cat I never was alcoholic. I found it easy to just not drink. I’ve had a few lager tops at the last two internationals down the club but seldom if ever drink in the house now. Don’t miss it at all. Chocolate? Well that’s another story😖

Hopefully you start again very soon and are able to, at the very least, equal your previous achievement. [Post edited 18 Feb 2022 17:02]

Are you able to ascertain what made you stumble ? Was there a trigger point ? A person or a situation ? Main thing is that you are in a much better place than where you were before. You are trying again from a much stronger position and you now know as opposed to hope, that you can do it. Keep going mate | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Boredom, I guess. Nothing really triggered it. After last night, I feel as if I'm not missing much without it, just had a few cans, put the headphones on and listened to music.

Yes, although one thing the lay off from it has taught me, it's not all it's cracked out to be.

I suffered from boredom but I found something else to occupy the time. My son, like most kids, loves Console games. I started playing with him and I guess it grew from there. Thee days when I'm home alone, if I get bored and there's nothing important to do I turn his Xbox on. I lay against him on FIFA quite a bit. Maybe you need to find a distraction? If music works then brilliant. You've already taken big steps, keep on taking them, you can do it.

Any good substitutes apart from water?

Water is the best thing though. I stopped drinking soft drinks because of the aspartame too. Now I buy sugar free squash and drink lots of water...and filter coffee. I think I'm addicted to coffee now.

Jim. I see drinking at a stadium as deeply anti social . Iknow,I’m weird but it just seems to detract from what I’m there for.

I find having a room full of musical instruments all I need. I really go spend all day there

It's but a dream for me to be a competent musician and to have a multi-track recorder! I could afford top quality gear but do not have the talent to play an instrument so there is no point. The big-boys recording toys, guitar multi effects , drum machines, and keyboards are soooooo affordable and compact when compared to yesteryear. Those 24 multi track recorders that cost £1,000 and you can fit onto a table. Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! A talented musicians dream machine, a world you could get lost in!

I very rarely drink a soft drink, if I feel run down and I fancy a sugar hit, I drink original coke. When I went on the wagon, I found I drank a lot more tea in the evening which beat the urge for having alcohol
