| Sanctions and Steel industry 12:30 - Apr 18 with 1588 views | CountyJim | Left Tata in 16 but was wondering how the sanctions on Russia will effect the industry. Not sure if it's the same now but we used to rely on Russian coal and coke a lot It's madness really Britain still has loads of coking coal left under ground but we got to ship it in which adds to the environment issues | | | | |

I thiunk much of the work could be done by robots now. There's a point here that in event of war a country needs a decent steel industry in the same way it needs fuel security.

Also what is the labour policy on fossil fuels ? And you want to mine more coal in wales etc. Surely that’s at odd with Labour Party policy. You seem very confused Jim.

It is time Coal mining moved in to the 21st century, ever watched salt mining in action? 20ft diameter tunnel boring machines, all the men do is sort stuff after it has been cut.

If a country needs a supply of coal, and for security reasons a decent steel industry needs to be part of a nation's industry, then it is better on all counts to produce that coal at home and offset the Co2.

I don't agree with everything they say I have my own mind and to me we should still be mining especially coking coal it's less environmental damage than shipping it in form all around the world and well paid work

Apparently not Loh, which was my thought too as the higher sulphur content had environmental concerns back in the 80s https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attac A thread with some very ironic posts. Short or very selective memories.
