UK to bring in new Bill of Rights on 11:53 - Jun 22 with 2121 views | felixstowe_jack | Hardly laws are made by our democratically elected parliament and punishment for breaking them Subject to independent courts and appeals all the way up to our supreme courts. Meanwhile in Russia Putin makes up his own laws and imprisons anyone who disagrees with him, often without even a show trial. Now that is real fascism in action.

‘Woke’ already had a meaning. It was adopted and changed by the left, something not universally agreed upon. Then after the left went all crazy with it (like they usually do) it was used by everyone else to mock them for their madness. Easy.

Indeed, force and/or violence also being prominent. These days people think fascism is “something I don’t agree with”.

Fascism is a political, movement, philosophy or regime, it's irrelevant if the govt was elected or not. This is the way this govt is heading at the moment.I was asked many years ago by a youngster, could we see National Socialism in this country? I replied no, i was wrong, it's possible

Correct comrade. Hitler was elected and changed laws to establish his fascist state. Mussolini used a coup (the March on Rome) and Franco civil war to be appointed to (Mussolini) or gain dictatorial power. In the last 2 years there are plenty of signs of fascistic activity. Blaming the foreigner, increased homophobia, ignoring scientific evidence, manipulation and control of the media (cf. the Carriegate story this week). The Bill of Rights actually weakens many rights. Already the right to protest has been weakened. We also hear of moves to crack down on unions. All very fascist moves to me and anyone else vaguely intelligent. All a bit 'Animal Farm'. The lessons from history are there. Itchy is right too. Woke is not an insult. It's something any humanist should aspire too. Perhaps some of the gammons here have been over-cured. They seem a bit salty to me

We saw it with covid. The passing of laws that gifted ministers the arbitrary right to impose restrictions on peoples lives and liberties, shut down entire industries, making it illegal to visit family and loved ones. They have become addicted to this arbitrary power. And with an impotent opposition and servile and complicit media there has been a perfect storm brewing which is making it easy for these snakes to operate. But is it fascism? Of course not. Nowhere near. It’s complete hyperbole to suggest any sort of tenuous link towards modern Britain and 1930’s Europe.

Lawyer can only ask Courts to look at the law. If we leave the ECHR, we lose the Brexit Deal and the Good Friday Agreement. All the ECHR did was to say not to deport people when there is no way of they being brough back till the hearing in an English Court in July. This Gvnt is attacking anything that can hold it to account. That should be worrying whichever way you vote.

Franco was not a Fascist, he was a throne and altar arch-Conservative of a very specific Iberian type. [Post edited 22 Jun 2022 19:46]

He's not a fascist, he's a very naughty boy! When Bojo has brown shirted hooligans wandering the streets beating anybody who speaks up against him, when political opponenets disappear in the night, when he has mass rallies at Newbury (close enough) and when Bojo starts talking about racial tuberculosis, then I may get worried

Yes. Even though our current situation leads us to be ‘led’ by narcissistic incompetent childlike degenerates who judging by appearance alone probably smell quite badly it’s still very much a first world problem and any comparison to the genuine horrors of yesteryear are thoroughly incomparable.
