Post match comment remains a mystery 11th Oct 2022 14:57After his sides 1-1 draw with Aston Villa ex Swansea and now Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper fired a missive that can only be perceived as towards the swans in his post match interview. It’s a bit odd he would mention such matters in the glow of a point earned against Steve Gerrard’s Villa, especially when talking about his contract at the city ground. 0 Odder than an odd thing at the odd town oddness market for odd people with odd conditions such as oddness. Exactly. That statement says it all. He will fall out of favour with the fans at Forest when they wake up and realise that he and Tatey are not Clough and Taylor reborn. What a kick in the teeth for the club that gave him his start in league management. How any Swans fans can defend that is beyond me, but sure some will.

Time to move on and forget about Cooper, he's obviously got a chip on his shoulder regarding Swans, so leave him to it.

I stand to be corrected here but didn't we pay the manager £1M bonus when we were promoted to the Premier League and every manager had £1M bonus each season to keep us there. Potter had the same bonus clause but Cooper was the first manager not yo have it. Fact or rumour?

Some defend him because it fits their agenda.

It depends what is said. Usually the stuff said about Cooper is ludicrously stupid, so defending common sense is always a good agenda to have. Sometimes the criticisms are acceptable (didn’t like him, didn’t like his style of play etc). But often he is defended because the attacks on him are so painfully stupid. As for this specific thing, I’m unable to work out what he’s said here. Has he said he hasn’t been too bothered about contract situations in his past except one time? Not sure why that’s so offensive personally? Pretty sure it’s common knowledge he wasn’t happy with his contract here isn’t it? He isn’t saying anything we didn’t already know. But correct me if I’ve read that quote wrong. [Post edited 12 Oct 2022 11:29]

I don’t believe anything offensive has been reported.

Some appear offended though. “And some wonder why he is disliked by so many Swansea supporters.” “What a kick in the teeth for the club that gave him his start in league management. How any Swans fans can defend that is beyond me, but sure some will.” Struggling to see the problem with what he said to garner such responses like the above. Unless I’m missing something.

| What was that all about Steve Cooper ? Post match comment remains a mystery on 14:08 - Oct 12 with 895 views | ReslovenSwan1 | He stated that his personal rewards were not the driving force of his job. He is now extremely generously paid and can afford to say this. With a multi million pound deal agreed for a few years he is in clover. He can afford to say under these circumstances "details of may deal are not a big deal for me" . At Swansea he was on modest terms and wanted a big pay rise for two play offs. Sadly it was in Covid and the rewards to the club were less than usual. He did say "never been" focussed on personal rewards. He did demand perhaps a big pay rise at Swansea and corrected himself with the line "well only once". This would avoid a text from Julian W with a raised eyebrow emogi. | |

That’s how I read it too, seemed a pretty fair and honest appraisal of the situation in his career thus far. How he was treated after back to back play offs was quite ridiculous, especially in January, but also when he wanted an improved contract after continuing to improve himself and then finally how they handled the interest in him, demanding such high compensation. You can certainly see why relationships broke down at board room level. But I just don’t understand the constant negativity towards the bloke. Seems a nice man to me and only raised our profile when he was here as a place to develop top young players, something that is vital on a championship budget as Rodgers found being able to bring in players from Chelsea.

I agree. It needs to be seen in the context of someone doing a job. It’s not personal, it’s his career.
