Russell Martin : ‘ We don’t want to fight properly’ And he is 100% right ! 28th Dec 2022 08:00
Swansea City head coach Russell Martin looked as despondent and beleaguered as he has done since he came to the club in his post match press analysis of the eighth game without a win for the swans. Again we saw his side do everything he wanted them to do but in his words without the ‘aggression and fight’ that would have seen this game paint a completely different picture had they done so. 0

Always feels to me that the style/plan comes before the reality of the match/score, until we get to that last 10/15 mins when it dawns on us that we are losing & leads to a much more direct approach in an attempt to rescue something.

What a truly awful article. Just juggling the facts around to suit the agenda you have had since Martin walked through the door. No doubt he's a decent man but he is, at the best, a second-rate football manager. His selection for last night's game was stunning, anyone who saw that selection and was not full of despair before a ball was kicked needs a rethink. 7/8 of those players in that dressing room who were informed of that selection would have had the stuffing knocked out of them. I keep saying it - Mr Martin does not have a 'football brain' highlighted by the substitutions he made yesterday. He has turned a decent squad into a rambling mess and certain players have had their careers placed into jeopardy by his awful management. There cannot be many players in that squad who would not jump at the chance to play under a better (different) manager.

In any position there has to be a viewpoint that references more than just a mud slinging, name calling angle. I read articles every day I disagree with, and John will disagree with some of the content in this one. However, I love their composition and informative reasoning. But that wasn’t his response was it ?

Gathering the facts and then either isolating them or choosing to dig deeper in to them is what good journalism is all about for me. There’s nothing weird about any persons point of view, and if taken collectively there can be differing opinions.

You see it’s the facts that are dealt with here, and then opinion, facts that are collected, digested and then taken time to review before concluding in what is this report. Information gathering I assume is something you have done before ? That’s the crux of every investigative skills base. But allowing that to be tainted by an opinion as biased and negative as yours can be is concerning, and maybe even answers many questions out there ?

You see, an insult can be more than just a few words, even when it makes you think something is good but the content isn’t.

Again it appears no real blame attached to the Guv.
''The pain on his face yesterday.'' Poor fella.
There are many of us who have had ''The pain in our face for 18 months'' of watching the same bile.
If anyone on here is or has been a manager of a group of people you are tasked and paid by the hierarchy to sort that out.
If you can't you tend to get moved on or moved sideways or demoted.

Cooper flattened 4 or 5 times … no cards.
Cooper's first foul …. Yellow.
Fulton grabs an arm at a corner … penalty
Cabango rugby tackled at a corner … play on.
Swansea player fouled in the middle of the field leaving the attack going, swansea players foul to equal up and both are carded..

That’s how I saw it, the referee was incredibly poor, but we both know the blame is at the managers door, and of course the players. However, trying to navigate round that in a minefield of tempestuous hatred ( not you ) on here from some ( for a football manager ) doesn’t resonate for me.

Definitely don't hate the bloke, he just needs to be quietly moved on. He has shown himself incapable of learning or adapting and its clear the players are not playing for him.
My head is going to spontaneously combust if I see that ridiculous short goal kick routine when it's clearly not on again.

I'm just hoping that he's gone before we lose any players that might be of use to us going forward. It's clear that he's alienating quite a few of them at this point.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Yes he stated that was on ''All of us''.
The rest of the article is about the inability of the players to carry out instruction and the sympathy for him.
Are these the same players who won 6 out of 7 before this dismal run?
Is it Obafemi's fault for unsettling the dressing room?
There's only one common factor in my view.
But that's just my view. People have different views.

It’s nothing to do with whether I concur or not, it’s a well written article putting forward a well argued point of view.

Not sure I agree with him, and my view on Martin is changing but you’ve been oddly completely against Martin since day one.

He’s got a point re the lack of will of the players, but the buck stops with the manager. A change if it comes, is likely to happen if we find ourselves in trouble come end of January. If not will be the summer.

The manager will always be open to criticism, he is after all the guy that picks the team, the guy that decides the formation and tactics, not all of these will please everyone, we all have our own ideas and favourites, what he can't be blamed for is the inability to score, we had enough opportunities to come away with at least a point yesterday, Cooper, Piroe, Manning even Darling all spurned their opportunities, I'm not saying we should blame these players its football shyte happens, their 1st goal yesterday came from Ben Cabango trying to shepherd the ball over the line for a goal kick, he messed it up and gave away a corner which resulted in Oli Cooper conceding a free kick which lead to their goal, the second and most stupidly conceded goal came from a murder ball pass from a player who had 21 players in front of him, as much as Russell Martin annoys me when his team selection isn't the one I'd have gone with, or I don't agree with his substitutions or tactics, I dont think he can be blamed for a player having the brain fart.

Cabango to blame for the first goal! Christ on a bike. Nothing to do with a corner. The play had moved on and Cooper gave away a free kick on the other side of pitch! Two Swans players switched off at the edge of the box and allowed Carroll all the time in the world. Just how far back do you take play to blame a player or is it just another case of Cabango bashing?
Second goal … was Cabango’s fault. Benda made a weak pass aimed at Grimes (a usual play), Grimes walked away from it and Joe Allen was sleeping but made a play, Darling was caught out, Benda's positioning was wrong but Ince's finish was inch perfect. However, Cabango had broken wind on the half way line just as the ball went out of play for a goal-kick so it must have been his fault.

I’d lay the blame on the person giving the team talk in the dressing room before the game for both goals!

Ince’s goal wasn’t inch perfect, I’m sure it took a deflection.

"hatred"
What a terrible word to throw into a discussion.
Over 18 months think I Russell Martin has proved himself to be a second-rate manager.
But hate? No way - I'm fairly certain that Russell and I would get on like a house on fire if we spent time together. However, he seems to be an outwardly intelligent person who is incapable of learning from experience.
By the way the referee was not poor by any stretch of the imagination.
As a man manager, and as a football manager Russell needs to revisit his post-match comments and have a really good look at himself in the mirror.

Thats one hell of a rant fair play, if Cabango had dealt with that ball instead of trying to shepherd it out none of the following would have happened, not bashing anyone, its football shyte happens, but to say it had nothing to do with a corner that should have been prevented is wrong, as for Cabango breaking wind on the halfway line I can't comment, and I'm pretty sure Ince's inch perfect finish was deflected.

It’s aimed at OHL and I stand by every word

I love this Club and it supersedes everything and everyone . Individuals mean nothing ,they are passing through.

I hate what Martin is doing . As a bloke, I see a man who is ruining ( my word) young players and dumping and curtailing seasoned pros like Bennett .Nice? Not.
