I’m not sure it will. This was was back in January and was covered in the press then.

Starmer is trying to present Labour as the party of business to nick Tory votes.

Sunak would have been there but couldn’t go as everything was going to **** here so had to stay home and pull the drawbridge up.

I suppose it’s not something the tories can attack him on because they are all on their knees felating all and sundry at these Davos meetings too every year.

At least they’ve got some common ground there

Davos is a byword for hypocrisy, the rich and powerful jet off to top hotels spending vast amounts of public money and creating tonnes of pollution only to return and tell the rest of us we need to do more for the environment and oh, there is no money so cuts...

I'd say we should have a massive protest march about it but I'd end up being arrested "just in case" and the march would be denied and not mentioned in the media because of all the disruption it would cause.

Hardly draconian. Peaceful protest is allowed. You are not not allowed to disrupt the rights of the vast majority to go about their legal business. The police should have come down sooner on the extremist who close motorways, climb on top of trains and the underground and try to stop sporting events.

Mind you Russia really has draconian laws where no protests are allowed at all.

Voters have long memories , what was covered at the time was the World Economic Forum and as you say Sunaks absence , Stamer appears to be happy to take taxpayers money as a politician but scorns the mother of all Parliaments at the behest of yet another group of unelected capitalists .

6 arrested and now free with no charges with 1000s still allowed to protest I trafalgar square and elsewhere in UK.

No disruption reported looked like the Metropolitan police got this just right. Over a million visitors to London able to enjoy the day.

I just hope they are as effective the next time extinction rebellion, stop the oil and animal rights try to stop people going about their legal business.

Not sure what your post has to do with Kier Starmer.

Compare that to yesterday when a Russian anti war protester was sentenced to 25 years in jail.

6 people are wrongly arrested but that's ok? What happens when the numbers increase until we end up like Russia? Will it be Ok then?

You have to fight to keep your freedoms or they get whittled away.

The police got it wrong and they do that a lot these days.

What my post is, is a reply to your taking it off thread by mentioning Russia and in a keir Starmer thread it's fairly apt seeing as he could be our next Pm andiss a member of the legal profession too. It's squarely in his ballpark.

Starmer spouting his new Labour policy.

He wants to raise the "class ceiling " whatever that means. About time Labour became an inclusive party. Currently their leaders are restricted to White men.

Another policy claim that taxing private schools will raise £1.7 billion has been downgraded to £1 billion. An independent analysis has proved that if the number of pupils attending private schools drops by only 5% it will start to cost UK TAXPAYERS more as they pupils will move to state schools.
State schools get approximately £7500 per pupil.

About 25% of private school pupils have bursaries or scholarships, if you increase the costs by introducing VAT I bet the amount of buraries and scholarships drops impacting less well off people.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Absolutely no point in discussing any policy changes when as it stands there won’t be enough teachers to carry them out. In fact, we don’t really know if next academic year is affordable as the government is already 4 months late in releasing the STRB report on pay. All schools have been unable to formally set budgets.

The next priority should be ensuring there are enough safe school buildings to teach them children in as they’re crumbling. (It’s hard to provide correct detail on this as the Tories have suppressed the building conditions report although it has been leaked that 700,000 children are in buildings at risk of collapsed)

Thirdly talk on funding is pretty pointless as firstly using averages isn’t helpful as context impacts on AWPF, the PAG grant, Opportunities Area funding and Pupil Premium levels differ massively, even is schools are just a couple of miles apart. Secondly why other key services are run into the ground, the extra money given to school simply doesn’t make up the shortfall.

Having said all that, I think the policy announcements today were pretty weak.

The only reference I’ve seen to class ceiling was breaking it so that kids from all backgrounds including the working class could go on to be successful life and not be held back by barriers that once existed.

In terms of the “independent” analysis you talk about, would that be analysis undertaken by the right leaning think tank headed by a privately educated former intern to a Conservative MP who also worked as an advisor to Michael Gove and Matt Hancock. He also worked for the very Right wing Policy Exchange think tank. They”investigation” may have been conducted by an independent organisation, but that doesn’t mean it is impartial.

Interesting to note the fact that State schools get £7500 per pupil, in 2009/10 the last year of the Brown government State schools received £7260 per pupil, by 2019/20 State schools were receiving £6640 per pupil which equates to a real term cut of 9%. If the government had pegged the funding to inflation, the £7260 would now be between £10660 and £11,000.

Interesting to see the Maths teacher up in Gloucester who can have as many as 64 kids in 1 maths class as the school can’t afford to employ more maths teachers - it’s very concerning and will adversely impact on the future of those children.
