Well it played no role, if they were speeding and/or driving dangerously.
It'ss kind of the point about the new 20 limits, they will only work if the idiots on the roads step into line and drive safely. The lower limits won't save any lives if people just ignore them. In fact I see far too many people seemingly have an attack of impatience and overtake dangerously, fed up of crawling along. It happened today coming back from Ystalyfera, a Youngster in a BMW overtook 3 vehicles dangerously on the road back to Ponty. Lethal and tragic.
We do not train them to drive but to pass a basic test .
As regards speed,look,I was once with Jamie Whitham at Oulton Park nit long after his cancer recovery . We were discussing road bikes vis a vis the thousands who attend track meetings and he said he didn’t have a bike licence to ride on the roads as he thought it too dangerous with so many dykeheads around
On attack,he made the point all professional riders are highly skilled and trained for the job of racing. Also, and get this,he said,they all go the same direction and all knew their limits .

Yep,when I was a young blood,you could pass the bike test ,then jump on a Bonneville,helmet free and blast it down Jersey Marine.
First death by accident I came across was outside St Helens where a good chum of mine rode into Moggy Minor . His splattered head stayed with me until I joined plod and got to more scenes of smashed brains on the highway .
Few years ago,four kids up here drove into a tree whilst we were having a drink locally . Trees don’t move,all killed instantly .
All by youthful ignorance and over exuberance and we are arguing over a 10 mile speed limit reduction.
Any speed limit is just another road sign to ignore for many young drivers | |

I would say monitoring by a "black box" for the first three years after you pass your test would be excellent and I am going to put this out there for all over 75s as well. No rear passengers for the first 12 months also. These would prevent more deaths and serious injuries than the 20 mph law. | | | |

I’ve always had vehicles of my own since I was 16.
Seeing my mate so,altered all over Mumbles Rd was a sharpener though.
When you join Plod and you turn up for your first day at basic driver training ,what they do is take you out for 20 mins ,hen stop and take your driving apart . Everyone sees their arse as all of us think we are good drivers .It hurts to see your driving dismantled !
I used to think I was a highly skilled motor cyclist until I took the advanced Police Course on a shyte BMW ( hated them) . I got destroyed when we pulled in for initial assessment . I felt like chinning the Instructor but he was dead right .
It’s mainly about observation ,anticipation and brain control plus a knowledge of the Highway Code which nobody ever reads past their driving test .
When I retired briefly considered starting a business whereby I trained motor cyclists to advance levels and that I didn’t still annoys me . | |

Many are fully compos mentis and have their facilities .Add to this 40 years of driving experience and this beats rishyttters a third of their age full of testerone.
Black box?i d put them in parents of the little cherums who use Range Rovers to drive Pippa and Tarquinius to school ,whilst they follow social media on their phone .
Why not confiscate cars from those who use a phone at the wheel.
Then,do the same with drink and drug drivers .
Drug driving is now far more prevalent than drink driving.

Agree with this & would be a sensible thing for a government to introduce, I am sure it would result in a lot more lives being saved than reducing speed limit to 20 mph.
The crash in Coedely was after a funeral with the lads in the car moving from 1 pub to another (I will allow you to speculate).

I’m 76 and drive almost every day, drive to the speed limits and regard myself as a safe driver. Go and park up in Belgrave Road Gorseinon and watch the young drivers who have come out of Gorseinon College. I’ll wager that you won’t see any over 75 year old driver being as reckless as these students. |  | | |
