Kim Hellberg : The money factor means new Boro link 17th Nov 2025 08:52
HammarbyIF head coach, Kim Hellberg has taken a late turn in his decision as to which club to choose from his available suitors. And money it seems may have sealed the deal. Michael Carrick believed to have been on a million pounds a year was Boro head coach. He was sacked recently. 0

Gutted if this is the case though its understandable from his point of view more money and they are closer to the PL than us.

BUT its our scouting that found him why hadnt Boro knockedvon his door immediately Edwards went...which was before Sheehan?

Whatever still not good for us...hindsight is no good but maybe we should have gone with him before Sheehan invthe sumner....

Surely before they sacked Sheehan all this should have been sorted.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

It always happens to us ,it’s getting boring now ,we can’t compete money wise and are always picked off after doing all the hard work
Back to the drawing board and look for someone else, although Norwich or Southampton will probably step in and nick them off us
Only thing we can do is let them both appoint someone first and we go for whoever is left
As long as we improve,it doesn’t matter who he is

If this is true, and it looks increasingly likely it is, then the new regime has learned nothing of past mistakes.

Doing our business publically has bit us on the ass in the past and so it continues.

The club representatives should have flown to Stockholm and met him on home ground not paraded him like a show pony around a market where three other Championship clubs were looking for a manager.

Poor form from Boro who I have historically a lot of respect for - not Gibson's style this but it's a cutthroat business these days...

Im sorry to say but I dont blame him for turning us down and taking.the job at boro.

As someone has pointed out today, they are second with alot more money to spend and probably more importantly for him and hos family, they have matched the previous managers wage, 1 million quid, which is 4 times what hes on now and with a lower cost of living over here.

Its a no brainer, hopefully this episode will show to certain people that swansea arent as big as the think.

Well if that does happen I wouldn’t mind us taking a look at Raphael Wicky. That said, as soon as we do he’ll be appointed Norwich or Soton manager🙄

He has been offered more money by a bigger club ,who despite their current position aren’t guaranteed to go up ,even if they do ,they’ll struggle like all promoted sides and he’ll probably get sacked by January, , with a big payoff. Win. Win
We’ve never been a Big Club but we’re our club and that’s all that matters

Sorry, but this smacks of blaming the club regardless of the circumstances.

We've done nothing "publically". The club have made no announcements of any kind.We made a quick move for our primary target, met him and made him an offer. If he's chosen to go elsewhere then that's on him, not us

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Yes, bigger club, almost certainly more money, bigger transfer budget and a better chance of going up. Only so much we can do there.

However, what comes next is where they should be judged. There should always be contingency plans for this sort of thing. Will we move smoothly onto plan B, or panic appoint?

Not really "blaming" the club for the deal falling through, deals fall through all the time in football at the last minute, it happened twice with Rangers last month with first Gerrard then Muscat. If it can happen to a club of that size then of course it can happen to anyone. Difference is neither were "poached" by another club.

I'm just saying we need to be a lot shrewder in getting business done under the radar as it has cost us in the past and again today. We seemed to have learnt from it in recent times and kept details "in house" but after this I don't think we have.

I doubt Steve Gibson had even heard of Kim Hellborg this time last week, but not being impressed by Wicky over the weekend or vice versa someone has said we should look at this Swedish guy that Swansea are talking to get his agent on the phone...

It's KH's choice at the end of the day but we don't do ourselves any favours

You can't blame the club when the leaks came from the Swedish press and therefore the other side of the talks.

Up until yesterday, seemingly Hellberg was happy to come here, knowing he wasn’t first choice in the summer.

It was a rhetorical question, to cover "decent " options but as Keith said re Brendan if they are hungry enough they wont care

Well Wicky had talks with Boro over the weekend would he be a viable choice if Boro hire Hellberg? He turned West Brom down at the beginning of the season so it looks like he's interested in managing a championship club

As long as we don’t make a knee jerk appointment
There is probably a contingency plan ,well you would hope so ,these owners seem more professional than the previous ones

Ironically, I could have seen Rodgers to Boro happening.

Yes, I don’t think young up and coming managers take being second choice personally, they are just glad of the opportunity. Hellberg was just extremely lucky four championship clubs needed a manager at the same time
