I think the jail sentence is over the top. Suspended maybe but custodial?
You’ll know better than most that the blues and twos are not a licence to drive anyway you want but he was responding to an emergency where every second counts.
Also, maybe the family’s wishes that jail time was not necessary could have been taken into account.

A long time poster from the early days of Phil's site who I haven't seen for many years now trained to be a police driving instructor down on the South Coast. It's a rigourous and thorough process as you would expect.
A very tragic case but a lengthy jail sentence?
I cannot understand sentencing in this country any more it's crazy when they let actual paedos and other sex offenders off with suspended sentences etc...

When you look at his record of public service and the circumstances surrounding the call he was on, then losing his job and a suspended sentence would seem to be sufficient.

Nothing g less than disgusting
We see scum driving without a licence no tax no insurance and drugged killing people and serving two years inside

It seems to me that the rule-based order that the present government seem determined to defend is tougher when it comes to certain areas of public service work than to mundane criminal behaviour. Police officers involved in chases, firearms officers and UK military service personnel have all been in the dock in the last few years and sometimes received harsh sentences. The Government and sections of the judiciary probably see this as a key frontline in demonstrating the rule of law, but I can't help wondering if in the eyes of the public it actually erodes confidence in the social fabric. It is almost as though there is a performative aspect to these judgments. | | | |

The judicial system is rotten. Chock full of people who shouldn't be there. The type of prosecutor and judge who would see this officer prosecuted and jailed yet release sex offenders because they "don't understand that it's a crime in the UK". |  |
