Firstly, apologies from myself - I thought it was safe enough leaving grown adults who all support the same team to post on here without a babysitter for a few hours each Saturday night, and I was wrong about that. We'll have to look at some alternative moderation ideas for matchdays, or just put the board on read only on Saturday nights as certain pathetic individuals cannot be trusted. Cheers guys, another headache for me, and an absolute pain in the ars for all the normal, non-crazy people who want to use the forum as a forum.
Secondly, the two accounts involved have posted on here for a long time but both have now been suspended. We will not tolerate threats of any sort on here, or that sort of behaviour, or that sort of language.
Thirdly, apologies for only just addressing this now, late one last night and I'm at work today so have just seen it. Tried tidying the match thread up ads best I could.
Fourthly, we haven't had moderation on here, other than myself, for years and it's a better forum for it, but that can only continue if everybody behaves themselves. |  | | |  |

I dont think Clive had any option. Its a thankless task running a forum you might think it doesnt take a lot when things are going well (it still does) but its always in your head that the next shitstorm is just around the corner.

I think I'd broadly agree with this, but that said Blob can be a bit of a WUM if you let him, and Brighton does tend to get a bit tired and emotional when he's been on the vino.
Shake on it and move on. Middle-aged men having a ruck on the internet is almost as silly as superannuated hooligans trying to have one last tear-up before the arthritis renders it impossible. |  |

I've met a few LFW posters and I sit next to and enjoy the company of a venerable LFWorder at LR. All seem thoroughly decent folk.
I read the exchange on Saturday night and found it astonishing; Over the years, I've had some occasional friendly messages exchanged at times with both of them and they sounded reasonable guys so I was genuinely shocked at the tenor of their exchanges on Saturday. It felt like I'd landed on another planet.
I hope I can only put it down to an alcohol-fuelled antidote to the depressing performance that afternoon, otherwise they need to take a long look at themselves. |  | | |

It's pretty constant though isn't it? Been tit-for-tat for ages, regardless of the straw that broke the camels back them two have been going at it for a while and it must be an absolute ball-ache to try and keep on top of.
Blob could easily have blocked/muted him and vice versa, they could have ignored each other like adults tend to do when they fall out. I don't get on with everyone I work with but if I made it a problem at my office everyday my boss would be well in his rights to tell me to go away and continue the argument somewhere else. |

In defence of an absent friend I feel i must step in and just quickly say the threats were in one direction from Brighton and putting Blob at the same level of idiocy is more than a little unfair - we previously left the board solely because of Brighton and i can recall from the past he's been the common denominator in a couple of other bans |

Clive, I hope that that this incident does not dishearten you to quit this this site. Because it were me, I would probably want to throw it all in.
I now very rarely post on LFW, but the match previews and reports are a major part of my personal QPR experience and I regard them as an extremely knowledgeable insight. Plus, the quality of the writing is probably unmatched on a football forum and is a pure pleasure to read.
I really hope that this will be a major “lesson learned” for users of this forum to cherish and value what they have, as nothing last for ever! [Post edited 26 Feb 2018 8:03]

Just wanted to add to this comment to say how important this site is for me, in Oz, in maintaining my hopeless addiction to the Rs. Goddammit. F'ing 3.40am as the 5th goal goes in! Why do I bother?! But this site helps or feeds my problem - bringing together other addicts. Clive's match analysis and his writing skills are both top notch. Blob was having a gentle dig at Antti about his opinion of Washington, nothing out of order. Brighton posts asking why Blob is having a go at Antti and calls him a "Cnt" straight away. (I enjoy a bit of robust debate but, talking to another poster here, that word crosses a line with me.) Blob slaps him down with a fairly anodyne reply: "Woof woof" and then Brighton just lost it. More c-bombs, abuse and strange implications: Brian McCarthy's post referencing "cross dressers" remains on the match thread. Other things Brighton has accused Blob of recently include repeated stalking, stealing his girlfriend and making her leave the country and some unspecified disappearance of money.
Unfortunately it crossed a very definite line when Brighton said he was going to visit him and sort him out. Worse, Blob apparently took him seriously and crossed the same line saying that he wouldn't be home but Messrs Smith and Wesson would be. Blob has grounds for giving due regard to that threat because the pair were once friends and going to be neighbours - Brighton does know where Blob lives and has recently demonstrated extreme, irrational antagonism. Add to that Blob's advanced age (70) and him caring for his disabled brother and one can understand why he might want to reply with a warning of severe consequences to Brighton's open threat.
The abuse continued, largely in one direction, but also the threats of violence crystallised further with Blob warning of his .22 rifle and Brighton's ominous description of the local Spanish practise of resorting to a shotgun to solve problems.
I'm not condoning Blob's references to firearms, that was well ott and absolutely not something allowable on this forum. If Brighton had threatened me like that, I would have just dropped out of posting immediately and reported the matter to Clive. I doubt the police would take such a complaint seriously. But Brighton's hair-trigger abusiveness and their once-close relationship likely led Blob to treat the matter as a more serious threat than I might have.
I am not criticising your decision to suspend Blob at all, Clive. It's your site and I completely agree with the standard you are enforcing here, a standard that both breached. I just want to put on record that my opinion of where the blame lies for the altercation is 90% Brighton, 10% Blob. |  |
