Summer Transfers 10:49 - May 30 with 134015 viewsderbyhoop

There's always lots of speculation, 90% generated by agents. Might be good to have 1 thread.

I don't understand the speculation that has linked us with Adam Matthews from Sunderland, Adam Maher from AZ Alkmaar and Liam Kelly from Livingstone.
Matthews is a RB where we have Furlong, Rangel and Kakay
Maher is a midfielder where, even if Freeman goes, we're not short of options.
Kelly is a keeper. We have Lumley, Ingram and Dieng, unless the latter goes to Glasgow Rangers.

When Clive dropped in the teaser about an unexpected departure I thought it can’t mean Luongo because that wouldn’t count as a surprise. So then I thought Leistner which would p-ss me off enough but the thought of it being Furlong never entered my head. Let’s hope Clive’s just being mischievous.

You are mental sometimes mate. We can't even muster more than £250k to prise a busted up Alan Judge off relegated Ipswich. Knockaert isn't a blown budget for us, he's in a different stratosphere.

Anyway, a lot of activity around ours this week, including potentially a surprise outgoer...

Are we all misinterpreting 'surprise outgoer'?

There you go. Reason for him being pulled out of Saturday. Seems cheap. Again.

Rangel isn't fit enough to get up and down like a modern FB so unless we get someone in then we're in big trouble

Positive is we developed a kid and sold him for over a million but this seems a stupid decision to me

Very disappointed about that. 3 or 4m would make sense but that seems very cheap to me.

Well I didn’t see that coming ? Furlong is exactly the mould of youngster we will need this season.

Versatile and can play across the back or wing
Good in the air
Long throw
Quick

The sort of player who is not quite there yet but will shine in a decent team,

1.5m May be about right at this moment but what p,ssess me off is we couldn’t afford that money for a player like furs yet we have him already and going to sell

We're also repeating the mistake of last year with Rangel and potentially Cameron in that you're taking players deep into their 30s with recent injury records and relying on them to be your first choice for a 46 game season. Cameron was unlucky, victim of a horror tackle, but if you're expecting even 30+ games from either or both of them next season that's very optimistic.

I really do hope we have a sell on clause in the contract.

Well, on the one hand, we’re supposed to be developing players, so selling Furlong, if it is him, would be good in that respect. But, if we do the usual, and give him away for buttons then they’ll be some unhappy people. With the club’s track record i’m not overly confident.

Going West Brom for £1.5m

Agreed, it is certainly a gamble we don't need to make. He can't have been on big wages either. Good purchase from WBA, they are ones to watch this season I fear.

If Furlong was with Brentford, he’d be going for no less than £5m.

We’ll never get good money for a player if we’re seen as a soft touch.

Knowing this poxy club it’ll be Furlong.

FFS.

Build the defence around him. West Brom can sense what mugs we are for not rating him.

Funnily enough it seems they're about to have a shocker at WBA's hands too.

"Came through Brentfords academy system" is a phrase which acts as a selling point and undoubtedly bumps a players value a bit.

"Came through QPRs academy system"...is not

This is, unfortunately, true.
Stature of selling club is huge. How many times have we signed an ex Man U player only for them to be useless

Looks like we’re filling the Furlong hole with, yep, you guessed it, a loan.

I assume he's out of contract next summer and won't sign another?

£3m at least half if not a third of what he's worth IMO but I guess I don't see him every week. Makes me feel better about £5m for Freeman at least.

Selling Furlong is the sort of thing we NEED to be doing. Whether the rumoured 1.5m is sufficient is debateable. But, full backs rarely command premium prices, as I'm sure our esteemed editor will tell us.
It looks like we're bringing in Dujon Sterling , from Chelsea, on loan. So we shouldn't need to rely on Rangel for 30+ games.
We're also rumoured to be after another CB, Clark Robertson, from Rotherham.

I suspect that we will end up loaning in a striker very close to the window closing. It doesn't seem like we can afford to buy one. Nor do I think we'll come close to offering Hugill the £40k per week , somebody claimed he was earning.

I think it unlikely Hugill will solve our goal scoring problems, he had 41 appearances last season and managed 7 goals, not prolific and probably on high wages.
Matt Smith (the larger) did better.
