No Championship defender has created more chances (68) or provided more assists (7) this season than Ryan Manning.

Just had this sent to me. Have to admit to being slightly surprised by just how many chances he's created. I'm not a fan of him being played at left-back but he's definitely an asset an left-back.

That's impressive. Well done to him.

He's had a decent season for sure. I'm hoping Kenny will have a look at him sooner rather than later. If not for the play-offs then at the start of the next campaign. Maybe Masterson and Shodipo too. He knows them well from U23's

I like him as a wing back but feel as a pure left back he is more exposed defensively ans gets forward less which removes one of his greatest assets.

He's still learning the position of course so may improve defensively, but I think he is much better as a wing back than a left back.

I still wouldn't mind seeing him have another run in midfield either.

I would really like to see Manning as an advanced central midfielder. He has vision and gets stuck in. When he started out in that position he reminded me of Martin Rowlands.

Never knowingly right.

I thought Manning was a guarantee on the Irish team under Kenny but he mentioned we have one of the best back 4s (try not to die laughing )in Europe already with Doherty and Stevens on the outside.Left Mid is a good chance but if if McClean or Brady are hanging around that will be interesting.I rate Manning above both but its while wearing blue glasses .
Hopefully Kenny will blow it all up and try to actually attack and score a few times per game and bring back a bit of excitement its badly needed

Manning's been a victim of his own success amongst many of our fans.

This time last year he was an attacking midfield player covering at left back doing a good job.
Started this season on fire and when we were winning we overlooked some of his defensive faults.

Now he's statistically one of the best attacking full backs in the league people expect him to be malidini.

First full season in the position and with little protection ahead of him i think he's done a great job.

There was one game he should have played when McCarthy had no other left-back but played Doherty there and the lack of balance cost us a win and our place in the Finals.

Apart from that, McCarthy plays a defensive back four and Manning is not yet good enough to play there at International level. After all he is regularly targeted at left-back by our oppo.

Kenny prefers attacking full-backs, though, with split centre-backs. Manning would definitely be a good option in that set-up. Let's hope he gets the shout.

Long before it became fashionable, I’ve always been in favour of full backs that are comfortable on the ball and capable of offering an attacking/creative threat. No coincidence that some of the best times I’ve had supporting Rangers has been when we had two players who’d have been equally at home in midfield (the Bard and Wilo) occupying fullback positions. I think we’re trying to do the right thing by getting these type of players into those positions and not just ones focussed solely on defensive responsibilities.

Having said all that, I’m still not sure on Ryan Manning. Excellent left foot, tenacious and show’s fight but he’s not the most agile, he looks like he could easily fall into the “overweight for a Footballer” category if he doesn’t keep an eye on his fitness and understandably gets lost positional wise during games as he’s still learning that position.

I think if pressed though, I’d definitely support retaining Manning for next season as first choice left back. The left foot is a bit of a wand and the guy has shown fight to retain his position following the arrival of Wallace, and in this case the stats show how many chances he’s created for us. I just don’t see him as irreplaceable in the way I do with Eze, BOS, and to an extent Chair so if a decent offer came in…I’d certainly take my time reviewing it.

Manning creates loads of chances and plays great passes. His left foot is class. Also he has the vision to slip balls in behind on the ground and plays the ball quickly under pressure.

However, he's not fastest player and against quick wingers, it can be tough with no protection for him. Eze does not always run back. But let us compare him to Bids, we can see he's way better than Bidwell. Dark times were those with Bids and no protection in front of him.

We should have played Manning and Furs2 as fullbacks years before we got around to it. I would get the contract sorted with Manning even if it costs quite a bit as we know he's at least more than decent at this level. Or sell him quick now.

Wallace is just a back up in my view. We shall need to buy a LB, possibly the Wigan one if they get relegated and need cash fast.

He's certainly a 'modern' full back in that he can pass, cross and dictate play ahead of defending.
However, the channel between Barbet and Manning is a big weakness for us and has been all season.

An excellent Championship left back if you play 3 at the back. Am sure he will be gone next season

Sorry Lazyfan especially if this comes across as an arsy comment but you mean the Wigan full back that was due to sign for Milan, that one?

I can see Egan will be picked by Kenny as left centre-back, Bob.

It's the defensive side that lets down Manning and why the opposition frequently target our left flank.

We'd be a far worse side without him, been one of our best players this season
