Nice touch. Has an honesty and sincerity about it that is indicative of how he seems to be as a person and a player. 19/20 was his most successful season. Interestingly, he doesn’t say ‘goodbye’

Hugill on 12:39 - Jul 23 with 3850 views | TacticalR | I found some of the criticism of Hugill a bit puzzling. I know he blasted a few over the bar, but by January he had scored more goals in half a season than the previous year's top scorers (Freeman & Wells) had scored in a season. The guy is irrepressible and the misses never seem to get him down. I think that's why whenever he had a lull he always came back with a goal and didn't go completely off form the way Wells did the previous season. He's also more skilful than people give him credit for.

Hugill on 12:45 - Jul 23 with 3794 views | Antti_Heinola | Really liked him. His ability to miss from 6 yards or less was bewildering considering what a good player he is - I reckon over the season he missed, say, 7 or 8 absolute gilt-edged tap ins, but he scored a load of goals and I thought was great for us. Brilliant attitude, good all-round striker. Would love him back.

Hugill on 12:58 - Jul 23 with 3710 views | Galileo | Genuinely pleased he had a decent season. Good, hard working player, not the best we've seen but definitely in tune with the cause and always gave his best for us. The fact he's had to work hard on coming up through the ranks via Port Vale and PNE helps keep him level headed unlike some of the Premiership academy graduates.
Hugill on 13:04 - Jul 23 with 3665 views | W7Ranger | Loved Huggy. Proper old fashioned centre forward. Loved a tussle. Fought for everything. Yeah he missed a few, but still scored 15! Not bad considering he was benched a few times and missed a few other through injury. If he was more prolific, he would be playing for a top ten prem team. Championship is a great level for him, and I would absolutely LOVE to get him back for another season or more. The fact West Ham have stayed up must give us a chance of another loan spell??!!
Hugill on 14:09 - Jul 23 with 3426 views | Myke | Great character. I feared by the expression of pain on his face, as he hit the ground after scoring against Boro, that we had seen the last of him in a hooped shirt. If that proves to be the case, then vollying home the winner against your-hometown club, where you had a miserable time the previous season, is not a bad way to go out! All the best to Jordan.

Hugill on 14:31 - Jul 23 with 3300 views | DieByYourSide | All signs would suggest there's a deal to be done and something in the region of £15m + Hugill for Eze would be pretty decent for us, you feel. We keep 15 goals from this year's team and given the way we play under Warbs, you know he'd be likely to notch a similar amount next season - he's just turned 28 so could have some resale value after a few seasons of hitting double figures. Or we try to do a Nahki and bring him back on loan again but risk a Championship team with a bigger budget coming in and nicking him as a squad player...

And none of this 'professional Premier League @Umbro/Lotto/whatever athlete for West Ham' twitter bio put together by his agent. No, he leads with Avicii song lyrics. Thought he has done really well this year and been an excellent signing. Played through injury for several months, scored a lot of important goals and done a hell of a lot of hard graft - and in a team of nice young boys, been prone to some welcome shithousery. You only have to watch us attempt to play with Oteh or a winger out of position up front for a game or 2 to see how much he brings and how tough a job it is.
Hugill on 15:10 - Jul 23 with 3135 views | Rog | Proper centre forward, just as happy beating up centre-back's as banging goals in. Always made me laugh when he came out for warm-up during the winter, most of the team in multiple layers, gloves and snoods and he's in a short sleeve t-shirt. A good lad.

Hugill on 15:41 - Jul 23 with 3006 views | terryb | Thank you Jordan. I remember you say ing after the win at Stoke on the opening day that you would help Eze score ten or more goals this season. Hhe easily beat that & you got fifteen. I have no objection to you returning as a player ^& I would certainly applaud you pre match if you were an opponent.

Hugill has left me tearing out hair at times (albeit not his own Covid-sprouting barnet), but he leaves (if he's leaving) a good taste in the mouth for his decent goal return, resilence and attitude. It looks like Moore will be coming in to replace him as, reading between the lines, renegotiating Huggy's loan seems off the table. However, he'll also need a complementary goalscoring partner, so I hope the club are realising we still need a replacement for Wells, especially if Eze goes. (When were we last blessed with a genuine striking duo that was ours?)

As we all know, stats don't tell the full story. Jordan was better. For starters he could run around and play the full 90 mins. I liked MS as well but he wasn't very mobile and he probably has done well in a long ball team.
Hugill on 16:08 - Jul 23 with 2897 views | NorthantsHoop | Hugill is the sort of physical striker we will need going forward. He has done really well, gets stuck in and scored a good amount of goals. Be great if he came back, but wages are probably out of our reach, unless as a loan signing again.

Proper stats actually would tell the whole story though - it's just that goalscorer leaderboards alone don't cut it. I wouldn't go so far as to say both sides of the stats divide don't have valid arguments however. For instance it's always seemed a big interpretive oversight that the value of an Austin in his prime say would be diminished by his lack of all round contribution. Can look down your nose at it all and I've made a few Justice League style cracks myself but I'm still pretty envious of other clubs that have younger and more open-minded stats-friendly "fanalyst" supporters on social media.
