'Birmingham retire Bellingham's No 22 shirt'

http://www.skysports.com/share/12034786

Bloody hell, he's only played about 40 odd games for them, and he's not dead

Poll: Shamima Beghum

Yeah that's weird.

I'm not a huge fan of retiring shirt numbers, although I understand it in cases where its done where a player has died whilst in service to a club as a mark of respect (such as our own Ray Jones and 31 of course).

In regards to retiring numbers for legends - I think that can ruin the legacy of a shirt itself - people should have the chance to continue a shirt's legend.

I'd be very sad if QPR retired the number 10 say when Stan eventually passes on - we've had a great line of number 10s since, right up to Eze now, and retiring it would prevent others the chance to add their own slant on the legacy of the shirt.

Yeah a season I could live with, although we've already done that with the #10 in recent years I think? Part of the fundraising for Stan's care if I remember right.

would they have retired the number 10 shirt if ray jones had it when he died.
just a thought.
i know what your saying though, i'd be gutted if the 10 shirt went as well.

Poll: how many games this season....home/away.

Birmingham's reverence for Bellingham is so deep it almost makes you wonder why they sold him.

I just can't believe no-one's ever going to get a chance to wear the number 22 shirt for Birmingham again. So much history with it.
Heartbreaking

"the club have decided it would be fitting to retire this number, to remember one of our own and to inspire others"

How is no one using that number again inspirational? I don't get it. Shirley someone wearing it and trying to become as good is more of an inspiration?

Maybe they don't expect to get as many people worthy of their number 22 as we've had worthy of our number 10 😜😜😜😊😊😊

Yeah, the legend of the QPR No 10 supposedly began with Stan seeing that no-one wanted to take it after Rodney left, and having the cojones to take it on. Now we have a shirt number that's a privilege for a player to wear and a tradition to live up to - much better approach IMO

Birmingham have retired the No 22 shirt in honour of the money they have just got.

Is Bellingham really all that or just the new Jermaine Pennant?

And retiring numbers, another bloody Americanism creeping in over here.
