Seen loads of chat around BOS and Eze, but what of Ryan? To date, no contract signed, but little concrete evidence of hard bids. Will we let him run down his contract, or will it be a case of renew g if there is no interest this window?

Not sure he'll get a move to the Prem, but can see "bigger" Champ clubs coming in for him...

Any whispers heard?

Can we go out yet?

He tries hard and seems to have a good attitude but I just don’t see how he can be worth a fortune when he’s so one footed. Not a Prem player for that reason alone.

To my mind BOS will still be here next season. He has only had about 4/5 good months and didn't actually cover himself in glory at the restart. We wouldn't, at the moment, get much more than £3m for him.

I've wondered about him at times. Since he's been doing well, his body language might have dropped from a lad who was absolutely chuffed to be playing for a team like QPR into that of a player who'd rather be elsewhere. Understandable perhaps, but a slightly ungrateful attitude if it's the case. Am i imagining it? Maybe, hard to tell watching streams where it isn't possible to watch one player specifically and i might be doing him a disservice. Time will probably tell.

Did you not see angel di Maria in the champs league final?

I said it on a different thread....I don't think he's Premiership standard. But I can see him going to a top half championship team for a similar fee to Furlong. The probkem now is, nobody has that kind of money.

I would move him up to the left wing and offer him a few more quid.

It’s conceivable that warbs could make QPR a top half championship side this season with some of the Eze cash.

Possibly, but still think Manning will want to go for a large salary increase.

Disagree. He needs reigning in and a coherent tactical structure around him but has so much to offer. We're complicit in his weaknesses in ways a different set up might not be.

For the money he's available for I'll be a little surprised (but not shocked) if a Prem side doesn't end up taking a punt on him, if only as squad option. I would even include Spurs and Wolves (who have Jonny their regular LWB out for months) among those who ought to be considering it, never mind Sheff U, Newcastle, Burnley, West Ham. Maybe Bournemouth in our division but doubt it.

4 goals and 7 assists is nothing to be sniffed at.

It's an interesting one. Manning is a fine player going forward, who also seems to have developed a happy eye for goals,, but as I have said elsewhere, he is NOT a defender. He completely lacks the two most important elements of defending; positional awareness and anticipation of danger. Also having someone as dodgy defensively as Barbet to 'cover' when he is bombing forward only exacerbates the problem. Either sell him for a couple of mill or offer him an improved contract as an attacking midfielder/winger.

He also lacks a basic ingredient - hunger. A defender will strain every muscle and sinew to get back when the oppo breaks. Midfielders should too - ask Bayern. It's a given. Too many times Manning can be seen in the corner of the screen half-jogging back watching as the kitchen is ablaze.

I don't think it's an accident that we happen to have seen the best and worst of our squad as individuals over the course of last season (and wild fluctuations in form as a result). My impression is there's a fundamental looseness to Warbsball that exacerbates both sides not just tactically but psychologically too. Manning's petulance and occasional laziness is the other side of the raw impulsiveness we celebrate in him - not least when invoking him as an example against bland and smoothly professional big club academy products.

IMO Manning has defending in him with a firmer hand. In any case however it doesn't have to be a fatal flaw if provisions are made to compensate. And it's not just Barbet covering, it's the midfielder knowing to drop deep, it's every player in position relative to each other to stay compact in transition.

Exactly this. He's not a defender, but I am a fan.

Why should he be so enamoured with a club that has a) farmed him out on loan to a level he is clearly better than and b) consistently played him out of position.

I can see why his is not rushing to sign that contract.

I am still not sure we have actually tested how good he is ( I suspect Championship is his right level) in his best position.

Should be in the the Ale Faurlin DM role IMHO.

Whilst we aren't in a strong position due to his contract the Eze sale does allow us to up our asking price to closer to £5m for him and Bright you feel.

But I think that saying that he's not a defender leaves him off the hook. There are times he just does not get back. That's a lack of desire. When Bosingwa acted like that we called him on it.

Also, he's getting a damn good wage here and we've turned him into a preofessional footballer. Take the shirt and play where you're told to play.

That's if he's not writhing around on the floor from yet another career ending injury!

I wouldn't be surprised if, apart from financials, Manning isn't stalling on a contract seeking assurances of playing in a preferred position. He gets stick for his lack of defending at LB, rightly so, but he's not actually a defender and clearly doesn't want to be.

He was moved there to do a job, turned out he's a brilliant attacking full back, so stayed there once old man Wallace was remembering how to football. I think if we gave him a good deal and told him he's going to be part of our midfield, he'd take it.

Sorry to keep quoting MW but he does give some good insights on latest interview.

He said any player NOT signing a new contract in last year of current one wouldn't be in the team!

Odd that he would take that stance, especially with his steadfast belief in the professionalism of players! Be a real test to sit BOS and Manning out for 6-12 months if we're struggling...

I was shocked at that but I think it was more to do with Leinster than Manning or BOS as he played both of them last week

be interesting how it pans out
