Jimmy The Hoover was a great shout but all the rest of them bands pretty much are far from forgotten, wish I could forget some of them! Except for Hot Hot Heat, tune!!

There is some merit to the JTH song but largely it and especially the audience remind me of how painful the early 80s were.

QPR connection at 1:25.

XTC, seeing your avatar, I was at my dad's funeral on Monday, and when they put a QPR hat on the coffin - a free with membership one I think - was the moment that did for me...

I was trawling the internet for ideas for the Indie bands thread earlier and found Gene.

I'd completely forgotten about them...

The Alarm were a great rock band from Wales in the 1980's both live and on record. They got eclipsed by U2 and a couple of other groups at the time so never really made the big time but still very underated.

Agree about the Alarm. Been following them for a bit whilst I was working in a record shop in the early eighties and thought they might be the next big thing.

I used to steward a lot at Wembley at the same time and met them briefly as they wandered into the venue when they were the first support act to Queen. They were a really down to earth and nice bunch of guys and played a good gig too. They were though overshadowed somewhat by a new Aussie band who were the main support, INXS who were playing just as Kick was being released and they were excellent.

See my post re the Marquee on before they were famous thread.

Oh OK, save time.

I saw them as Seventeen supporting Stray Cats at the Marquee, late 1980.

There was some buzz around these guys for a minute or so as the '80s became the '90s. Largely forgotten unless you were in Los Angeles at the time or are a big fan of bands that sound like X.

For a band that lasted 17 years these are hardly even heard of, let alone forgotten.

The grass is always greener.

A very underrated English rock band, in my humble opinion, with a terrific lead guitarist. Championed by Marillion's guitarist, who produced some of their early stuff, they have been around since the 80s and are still going strong. Melodic, catchy even, with their own sound.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
