BOS 00:41 - Nov 25 with 4696 views | Boston | MOTM right? In an effort to reeducate my brainwashed colleagues, I broadcast the game through the job today. There was no hiding from the Sinton / London commentary, so much so that I've had a couple of texts from the boys who bothered to Youtube the highlights and ask who is this BOS, he looks useful etc.

I think he looked pretty pleased when he scored. He didn't get too involved in the 1st goal celebrations because he'd been running with the ball for nearly a full minute. He was knackered for a moment after that run. He's played better over the last few games. Perhaps it is because he knows what is happening with his future. It may well be away from here but he does seem to have been more on it over the last few games and I'm hoping he's on it tonight.

BOS on 23:36 - Nov 26 by Myke | I suppose it depends on the player Antti. If you take some like Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, or Theo Walcott, could you make the argument that that they didn't really improve from early mid-twenties onward (Don't get me wrong, both have fine careers) as they were all about speed? Even our own Ned, pretty much plateaued out ( which is why he ended up at us in the first place) in his mid-twenties. You can see a gradual regression in Kyle Walker, year on year as he gets older and his speed incrementally decreases. If BOS has nothing but speed (not saying he has, but think we can all agree he is not Eze), then is it not reasonable to assume he is good as he will get at 22, when he is at his physical peak?. How many times have we heard of a player in the past that had 'pace to burn' as a youngster, but quietly faded from the scene as they got older? |
Well, absolutely, as I said plenty of players play their best football at a young age - Rooney and Owen being two other examples, although I'd say until his injuries, Oxlade-Chamberlain had really adapted his game well at Liverpool. I'm not sure you can say 22 is 'physical peak' - if you look at a pure athlete like Usain Bolt, yes he hit 9.58 at that sort of age, but was still comfortably the best on earth into his 30s. I think BOS can improve his crossing and passing, but skill-wise, the idea he only beats players for pace baffles me, as I've seen him dribble inside the box with several men on him, and using feints and skill to ghost his way into a shooting position numerous times - at last twice against Rotherham. He has lovely skill, it's not just pace and strength. I think my point is really two-fold: 1. Yes, you're right, some exciting young fast players burn bright then fade away - but that's not always the case - a very unfair comparison, and obviously BOS is nowhere near this, but Ryan Giggs was an example of a speed merchant in his very early years who adapted his game incredibly well. In Bright's case, we've seen continual improvement over several years now and I think he has the potential to keep doing so. As does Warburton - much-maligned by Clive for his academy education comments, I actually felt that this was more of a compliment, that Warbs felt/feels that he's come a long way *without* that, which is a real sign that he could then go a lot further as he learns the game. 2. How can anyone possibly tell if someone has reached their full potential at 22? Maybe Essex is right. But I just don't understand how you could hold that opinion - what's it based on? Particularly when we've seen him improve so much in 18 months. You can't really improve speed, but you can improve speed of thought, decison making, crossing, learning new tricks etc. You make a good point that Walcott probably peaked arpund 19-23, but no one was saying that at the time, because how could they tell? Just feel it's a really odd opinion to have!

BOS on 11:17 - Nov 27 with 735 views | WestbourneR | I’m gonna break protocol and fully agree with Tim Cocking here. BOS is pulling of the classic ‘wantaway sulk’. Just look at how he completely blatantly refuses to celebrate Chair’s first goal against Rotherham. Dom Ball was none to impressed. He then heartily cheers his own solo effort, knowing it boosts his stats and therefore chances of a big move. On the plus side, he wants to put himself in the shop window so he’s pumped and playing well - but I do think the whole making it clear he isn’t happy but he’s just too good to be stopped thing is an unnecessary performance after all the Warbs has done to develop his game.

BOS on 14:43 - Nov 27 with 619 views | Gloucs_R | Let's be honest if we get 500k we'll be lucky. I bet his agent is now saying he will go to Celtic or Rangers for free unless we sell him for peanuts in January. Does anyone record what we paid for him? The best we may hope for is that we had a transfer clause into it.

If he goes in January, we should get more than that. According to Clive if he goes in the summer, we will get compensation unless it is to a 'foreign' club. How does that work if he goes to Glasgow. Do the Scottish league have the same transfer/compensation rules as us? Of course you could be right Gloucs R, if he is going to go abroad anyway, he may go cheaply in Jan.

Sorry - lazy journalism - not impressed I meant! Could be totally wrong - he has always had a bit of an edge - often if he has been subbed and/or we haven't won he didn't always clap the crowd at KPFS or had to be 'encouraged' to do so. Some players are big team celebrator's and some not I guess and despite the constant 'close knit group' narrative every club comes out with - it makes sense that with players earning different amounts and not everyone playing, like every workplace, there will be more and less popular players within that group dynamic. As we saw in the Jamie Mackie interview, it seems our Joey was very popular with some, disliked by others - whereas to us it seems amazing anyone had time for him at all. Strange breed the modern day footballer!

I don't believe we get anything if he goes to Scotland or plays in any other international professional League. The only time we would get compensation if he stayed in the English FA leagues.

I watched the full 90 yesterday, Westy. BOS did celebrate Chair's goal. He can be seen in the huddle afterwards. I missed it live.

He belatedly celebrates and blanks chair originally. He also pulled out of a tackle in the previous game which was pretty blatant. [Post edited 27 Nov 2020 15:19]

It's a contract situation. He's worth north of £5m now in this market, but OOC next summer, won't sign, leaves for compensation, or for nothing if he goes abroad/Scotland. Funnily enough I thought Henry coped with him better than most full backs in the second half of last season, but every time I talk to a Brentford fan they say he gave him a grilling. You should have seen what he did to Jazz Richards - basically ended that lad's career.

Yes, there's a hell of a lot of projection going on here. Chair's his best mate at the club. The idea he'd sulk after his best mate had scored (after he'd teed him up) is just a tiny bit fanciful. I'm always impressed by the body language experts. The things they can extrapolate from a bit of action where they cannot hear what's said, and when they do not know and have likely never even met the person involved! I just had to watch it back. Blimey. He pumps his fists. He and chair shake/bump hands as he passes, Dom Ball congratulates BOS on the assist (how on earth anyone can interpret that as him being angry for BOS deciding not to run to the corner flag with Chair is pretty impressive, especially considering Ball is facing away from the camera), looks like Willock and BOS then are discussing off camera, then Cameron in all likelihood commends him on the assist as he arrives at the celebration, while Barbet has his arm round him. I mean, there's some serious meaning being taken from a combined total of about 5 seconds of footage on this thread. His reaction to his own goal is barely different. I just think it's a dangerous game to go around interpreting body language negatively like this to be honest, and it tends to say more about the fan's view of the player than the player himself. Everyone's different and everyone reacts in different ways to goals - Stuart Pearce never even cracked a smile when he scored. Plus, there are no fans to run to. Maybe I'm wrong, who knows, but feels like hokum to me, Clive.

BOS on 15:38 - Nov 27 with 476 views | Noelmc | At Griffin Park it was a really good one on one battle between him and BOS but I felt Henry edged it. Most teams use two players to try and limit the impact BOS has, but Henry managed it well on his own. Be interesting to see how it goes tonight.
