odds to win the title 17:36 - Jul 22 with 7258 viewssevenhoop

on Betfair exchange we're 26/1. 12th favourites, and behind Stoke, Boro (though i guess that's the Warnock factor), Birmingham and 'Wall . 12the favourites?! they don't usually get things wrong, so perhaps our own hopes/expectations are too high?

My understanding is bookies don't set their odds based on the real probability of an event happening, e.g. a particular team winning the league. Instead they set odds on how likely they think their punters will wage on each outcome. So if they think most money will be staked on a particular team winning the league, that's the team that gets the lowest odds.

Then, if someone sticks a large sum of money on a particular bet, you can pretty much guarantee the odds will drop as the bookie adjusts how much they may have to potentially pay out to all punters, should that outcome occur.

Bookies also build a margin in to try and ensure they always make a profit. For example, if there was two possible outcomes and the probability is 50:50 for each outcome, they wouldn't offer evens as odds. They would offer less to ensure they come out on top regardless of the betting on either outcome.

So just because QPR are 22/1 with Paddy Power to win the league does not mean the real probability of QPR winning the league is 22:1. Bookies (like every other company) are just looking to make a profit!

I think the odds on offer are not too generous as they are , especially winning or gaining promotion, even top 6 very skinny, too short for top ten finish as well, odds on with 40 odd games to go, ,injuries, red cards etc, all to maybe come, on paper yes we have a reasonable chance for the top ten, but no thanks.

I have included us to finish in the top half in my annual season long accumulator, where lots of odds on shots are lumped together in July and I don't collect anything in May.

The excellent Gabriel Sutton has us finishing 5th this season. Some big predictions in his 1-24!

He got the top 3 correct last season although not in the right order.bit off on his 4 5 and 6 th predictions.Apart from his Barnsley ( bottom half for me ) Birmingham (top 6 ) I would go along with most of that .

Yes i went large on that...£15 which is a huge amount for this pathetic punter who normally stick £1 or £2 on here and there.

Thats my thoughts exactly........sadly to make decent money you need to lay a few quid on the bet. I will be on edge for a while, i'm sure about that.

I'm similar, not into betting big money.....£15 max but normally £5. Done a bit more on this bet though.

those odds seem very aggressive and a good bet. This is the same side that was 3rd over the 2nd half of last season.

I know I am biased, but shocked to see that the following have shorter odds than us to get promoted: Reading, Forest, Cardiff, Swansea (no manager), Barnsley & Middlesbrough - really?

I feel that we'll finish above all of them, won't we?

Can we go out yet?

5/6 Top half???

For me only a small stakes punter maybe a bit wishful for better odds.

I do agree with most that we have a good chance of a top half finish, just a bit of miser when it comes to my punts.

Will wait for when we are a little way into the season and if we are maybe better odds in weekly games.

I am the same Wood but this time I think the bookies have got it very wrong so put a few quid on it......

Now 4/6.....sorry it was with Betfred not PP.

Do the bookies truly believe they can find four worse sides than derby this season?.

Worth noting you can do top half/bottom half as multiples though generally not more than one team per division.

Did top half’s of Norwich, Sunderland and Salford last season but the skinny odds do mount up that way. Would have lost on champions, promotion, even top 7 if I’d gone that route.

Just looked on oddschecker and we are now 9th favourites to win the Championship with 25-1 being the second most popular bet after West Brom at 13-2. Still no Derby on the relegation odds but strangely they are only fourth from bottom to win the Championship. We are sixth from bottom in the relegation odds. Looks like the bookies are starting to realise the merits of Warbs ball.

Fulham remain favourites, I suppose understandably but to be honest other than spunking £12m on Wilson they haven’t done much at the moment to replace the seven loanees and with Silva who I don’t rate I cannot see them being other than top six. I personally think that West Brom remain the team to beat.

Even the old miser in me now feels a worthy risk, so looking at the handicap list in link below a reasonable e/w @18/1 1/2/3/4 + 18 points , so this weeks pocket money duly spent.

To add to my promotion and title bets, just had a couple of bets for top half and to beat Millwall.

Hoping those latter bets pay for the first two if they don't come in!

Lyndon Dykes 66/1 top Champ scorer with 888.com while Charlie is 20/1.

Just saying.....

Latest on oddschecker, our odds are now starting to come down. 17-1 with a few bookies now, which would put us joint fifth favourites with Cardiff. A few are still quoting 25-1 which is looking very tasty for an e/W.

Succumbed and had an e/w on us at 25-1, can’t see those odds staying for long.

Also a fiver on Rangers to beat Millwall and both sides to score at 6-1. Reckon that will be a tasty bet this season for a lot of the games based on preseason!

Took all 3
25’s to win
12’s top 2
7/2 top 6

If we finish top 6 the whole bet is covered with a small profit. Gonna be all about early momentum and injuries. If you have former it can sometimes drag you through the latter. I feel confident in most, if not all of that bench stepping into most positions
