I try to stay off this board for a few hours after we lose, emotions are always high and tend to think in the cold light of day I can take a step back and try to give a reasonable response to a performance both good and bad but tonight honestly I don't know how I am going to sleep after seeing that Austin goal. That was a scandalous robbery by Stroud, not even close I can't get my head around what he thinks he's seen.

I don't care about how bad the penalties were, what we did well and badly in the other 95 minutes of that game, that one decision has killed me

Yes he did flag. Goal went in, I immediately looked at the little ref who signalled goal, then my attention went to the players celebrating in front of me at the corner of the Loft and Paddock. Then everyone saw the Lino had put his flag up which was well before Stroud was anywhere near him.

He doesn't have to go near him, they're in contact through the ear pieces and mics. There was definitely a discussion, celebrations were nearly over by the time they decided, together, that the flag needed to go up.

I was watching the lino, because I'm always the only one around me who spots an offside flag.
We scored. He stood. We celebrated. He stood. Stroud looked over to him, he looked at Stroud. He raised his flag. There was a ridiculous amount of time between ball crossing line and flag going up and the idea they didn't at least talk over their earpieces is a nonsense. I'm not saying Stroud told him to put his flag up, but the guy was paralysed, not signalling goal, but not signalling offside either. Stroud probably said 'make your mind up' or similar. But once the flag was up, Stroud should have pointed to the spot for an obvious penalty.

This, precisely.

He did not flag as Austin ran off to celebrate. There was a significant delay.

Suffering since 1978.

That was my experience of the goal as well.

in a strange kind of way I hope Stroud (or the lino) gets another gig at Loftus Road... I'd imagine he (they) will get a lot of warm attention for 90 minutes from the fans

The ref was not at fault for disallowing the goal......simples.

But many will blame the ref because it is Stroud....wrong.
[Post edited 27 Oct 2021 10:38]

wrong, in the scenario of it being offside (unless he is giving Dykes offside for the build up much earlier) Stroud then has to say, "ok, it was offside but in that case i am giving a pen and sending off "

I don't see how Stroud can give a penalty once the flag for offside has gone up. What happens to the ball after it leaves Alberts foot is irrelevant if the lino thinks Austin is offside.

Same here, I was watching the lino and gave it a while before I celebrated.

What I will say is that the same lino was poncing about with his flag generally, like for throw ins he'd lift the flag vertically and then slowly reveal which direction the throw had gone, come across like he's lacking some attention in his life.

Not sure you understand the law there Gary. Adomah takes a shot and it's handled - what's irrelevant at that point is where Charlie Austin is - he could be standing on the goalline 3 yards offside and its still a penalty. He's nothing to do with it.

Bare bones.

Treat yourself to this video, 1min 15secs in...

Given the time it all took last night there was clearly a discussion between the two of them about what was to be given.

If Austin is in front of Adomah when Adomah kicks the ball (and the lino hasn't seen the defender and thinks the goalkeeper has made the save), then Austin is offside. It's a stretch that the defender has made himself invisible to the ref and the lino but I can't think of anything else to explain that decision.

Must admit the whole Stroud/Newcastle/Penalty thang had passed me by but I had to have a look after Clive pointing it out...
If you cant be bothered to sit through the full autopsy fast forward to exactly 3 minutes 55 seconds... Its all we need to know really and Clive is right . He really should be struck off as a pro referee

He is not offside in that situation. He would have been prior to circa 1995, but not since then. He could only become offside when the ball rebounded to him.

I would call the decision a farce, but a farce is meant to be funny.

We can drive ourselves mad working out why or who he flagged offside. I think he panicked and cocked up. They shouldn't be working again for a long time. Imagine if they did that to Ronaldo, they'd never work again

i think he noticed that when Austin headed the ball there was only one defender & then debated in his mind as to where he was prior to the Adomah shot.

It came down to him guessing & getting it very wrong!

Stroud definitely signalled a goal, but the linesman didn't move from his spot until raising his flag while were all celebrating. I was the first to see the flag raised in our area & would sugest he told Stroud it was offside, rather than Stroud asking him.

That's the problem though, he didn't panic, he took his time. If you discount my 'the defender with the invisible cloak' proposition, being told in his ear to raise his flag is the far more likely scenario.

Haven't heard the name of the lino mentioned here yet, can we have it up in lights somewhere just so we don't forget.

Just to be clear, I'm saying the lino didn't see the defender and thought he was the keeper so if it was just Adomah, Austin and the keeper, this is what I've found on-line

Can you be offside from a rebound or a goalkeeper save?
The standard offside rules apply when there is a rebound or a goalkeeper save. If you were in an offside position when the ball was played by your teammate, you will be offside if you touched the ball after it rebounded off the post or was saved by the goalkeeper.

This is because your offside position was considered when your teammate first played the ball.

Doesn't excuse the lino for not spotting the defender but does mean Austin was offside if he thought the keeper saved it.

We've had the lino - Mark Dwyer - a few times. He's usually on away trips - Barnsley, Hull, Preston, etc - but he's been at LR a few times before, mainly for cup games.

Sorry even with that the lino and Stroud should have had a chat if the lino thought that the defender in the red and white shirt was the keeper and Stroud could have then put him right. Stroud should have also have seen the handball it was so bloody obvious the bloke lifted his arm up.

And just to give you all that warm fuzzy feeling you so crave in these difficult times this morning.
We, as a club, pay £50,000 a year to the referees association to ensure the continued high level of performance from these elite referees.
Think someone should be demanding a refund.

I assume it was totally beneath any Prem ref to have got last nights game? Are any other games in this round being reffed by EFL refs?
You have to also blame the comedian who thought it would be a good idea to put this bumbling fool in charge of such a high pressure game as this, with Loftus Rd nearly full under lights, massive away support etc, needed a strong capable ref assigned to it, not coco the clown and his oppos.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

He's been watching too much Strictly. 'The judges have been consulted and the team who has been awarded this throw in is... (dramatic music).... (interminable pause).... (more dramatic music)... (camera cuts to both benches showing tension etched on the managers' faces)... (camera cuts to Dom Ball unwrapping a green Starburst)... (unconscionably long pause)... (yet more dramatic music)... (entire universes are born, live, then collapse as entropy takes hold before their ultimate heat death).... SUNDERLAND!' (Camera cuts to hugging Sunderland players commiserating with gutted looking Rs players)

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

I do wonder if the mood lighting didn't help? Their keeper was in a dark strip and there's a dead spot in the centre of the goal.

Keith Stroud is a small, tiny, insignificant midget. In a world of small men he is looked down upon by all.

That Lino is bald, ugly and hopefully has a testicle or two lodged up in his abdomen. And a flag up his jacksy, sideways.
