I don't think that is an unfair piece of commentary. The opening two lines are perhaps a little sarcastic, but the tone of the overall piece I think tells it how it is.

Amit HAS made some big statements about how great Beale is and has set high expectations on this appointment so the board will live or die on this appointment.

Let's hope the Board have pulled a masterstroke following a sensible appointment in Warburton.

I agree, but just something to fill half a column, if that.
If you’re not spending big on big names the Stannit not really interested, we don’t care.

Compared to a recent article by the same journalist about “superb” Thomas Franks Brentford…

Haven't read it in over 25 years. A cousin used to work for them. They're filth.

Probably not, they dont seem to make Petards as powerful as they used to!

A London paper that is more interested in the big northern teams than us. Like Brian, I haven't read it in years. Wouldn't wipe my ärse with it.

Luckily it’s free now, unlike most toilet paper.I pick up a copy when I’m getting a train in London, but I’ve normally read it by the time I get to stratford.

Same newspaper group as the Daily Mail, nuff said.

Quite a sarcastic piece in places.

Also, what is this?
"So anyone who had not been across the Rs’ managerial search would have been justified in feeling..."

The "across" bit is stylistically awful. If the piece were about anything other than Rangers, I would've stopped reading at that point.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

The ES is owned by Evgeny Lebedev, son of KGB agent and friend to Putin. Stuck into the HoL by his corrupt chum Johnson, Lebedev has somehow escaped sanction and still owns not only the ES but also the 'Independent'.

And when radio five presenters talk about “keeping you across all of the action” or some such, i can’t stand it. It’s like a physical pain. Don’t get me started on using ‘amount of’ instead of ‘number of’.

I’m getting old, aren’t I?

TBF it does also say

"Speak to those within the game, however, and many will tell you that the hype is justified"

and

"His looks a statement appointment by QPR, too - but in a very different way to how they used to make them."

The ES is worth about what you’d pay for it - nothing - but being more excited about Brentford finishing 13th in their first season in the top flight for 70 odd years than us finishing 11th in our 6th consecutive season in the Championship seems…fair enough? Even though it won’t sell many papers, even if people paid for it, which obviously they don’t.

…and let’s not forget that George Osborn was the editor for a number of years. Jobs for the boys and all that.

It’s an estate agents brochure pretending to be a newspaper.

Agreed. 'Amount of' is used sloppily. OK when whatever it is cannot be counted, but not when it can. One of our regional ITV reporters refers to an 'amount of people'. Ugh!

I've heard quite, nearly, very (My 'favourite'), nearly and so many more - its either unique or it isn't!
