Whatever your views on gender/race/religion etc, this is absolutely terrifying that a private company can have this much power

I'm not sure. I'll wait and see what the truth of it is. Like the Farage bank ban, which ended up with their being no evidence of any customers having their accounts closed because of their views. Oddly, it was the same folk frothing at that; cbeebies, torygraph, Daily hate, free peachers.

There are people in prison for hate speech, mostly radical muslims tbf, so she could have gotten off lightly.

So you have no idea if it's true or not and also have no opinion if it's a bad thing or not, but you will angrily argue against what they are saying because you don't like the person saying it.
At least you're honest

Anyway serves me right for getting involved, enough of this, I'm going to finish my work as quickly as I can so I can then drink BOOZE.

I've long held the view that there isn't much difference between Labour and the tories any more policy wise. However this current lot have been beyond a joke for many years now and have just got to go. That might be the kick up the arse they need to sort themselves out and become a proper conservative party again rather than a bunch of extremist loons.

As a lefty, I try to understand the Tory party you want.

I could be wrong but it seems to be closer to One Nation Tories, the ilk of Cameron, Heath and even Boris. Sunak is clearly one of these, too.

They may lean towards the hard right now and again to get support (Boris with his letter), but they want to continue international capitalism and markets. They are more global than Thatcher, but they are the same nationally as Thatcher.

The hard right of the Tory party doesn't want to let the outside foreign capitalists in (closed shop just for them to be the elite), as they feel they cannot out-compete them in their international market domains and they don't like the national competition.

Reece-Mogg is one of those people who try to praise the class system, and you're not British like me attitude. As then, he wants to say x,y,z companies who are not British or not Britsh run at least (where British means the so-called elite like Mogg, not the workers) should not be allowed to operate in the UK and so on. Toby, who started all this, is also one of those. You notice that Newcastle his target is foreign-owned.

This goes against the One Nation Tories (despite their name), who wanna open it all up to international capitalists. And this is the real fight going on in the Tory party. Not, trans or wokism or if a banana should be straight or not, these are just topics to rile up support from people who have not been even given half the information and are peeed off for having been trashed on by the ruling classes (Starmer types).

If you want One Nation Tory policies you still can get that from the Liberals (proven with them going back on all their policies to ensure Tory policies were enacted in the alliance with Cameron.) or Starmers Blariite's old New Labour.

The risk for you with Starmer is what is expected to happen over here in left land, is that the fights in the Tory party will seem like a Tea party to what Starmer will get on him after his honeymoon period is over in 1.5 years of being PM. The fight is building up hard, and it will be way bigger than the Tory infighting. This means a resurgence in the left movement with Starmer as the target. The left could win back the party and govt so, so that's a risk to such views and that's why the papers will hammer Starmer in the election run-in. They are just saving it up, you'll see.

That I happen to be wary of accepting that a group that operates by spreading falsehoods and fake news might not be giving us the full picture doesn't mean I have no idea.

Should preachers of hate be banned from football grounds? I'm not sure I can get worked up enough about their "protected beliefs" or rights to watch football to die on that particular hill.

It's not strange at all. She didn't resign because accounts were closed for customers because of their views, they weren't. Yet, the stink raised has led to some people believing the opposite.

It's a pretty good example of how these culture warriors operate to muddy the waters and dupe the gullible.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-66851909

The thread is about a female Newcastle fan being banned from going to Newcastle games because she tweeted about trans ideology. Nothing to do with Natwest, Coutts, or Farage. It's pure whataboutery.

Dame Alison leaked confidential information about Farage's banking. Why did she do that? Because Farage is seen as fair game for that kind of thing by this kind of person. Why is he seen as fair game? Because he holds views she finds intolerable. In an internal dossier, Coutts wrote that he "is at best seen as xenophobic and pandering to racists" and considered a "disingenuous grifter" - You use all the Guardian links you want to try and pretend it didn't happen mate, but we all watched it in real-time.

Keen, and outspoken brexitierer Reece Mogg moved his investment companies to Dublin
within weeks, if not days of the Brexit vote.
Had it all packed up ready to go in case they actually won.

He had a big voice in the media trying to persuade the public to vote for something he didnā€™t personally believe was a good idea for our country

Slightly off topic, but it still gets my goat. Apologies

Bullshit. It's the complete opposite of what you think.

This is extremists trying to exploit football just like when the NF were handing out their filth outside football grounds in the 70s. The difference is that then they were a ragbag bunch of thugs and misfits, now they're organised and backed by posh people and wealthy neo-fascists. They don't believe in free speech at all, they want to whip up hatred and shut down people who don't agree with them.

That sounds more like the so called "Progressive left" to me comrade.

I mean it's a pretty good example of why I tend not to want or like these threads.

The original premise is, I think, a very interesting one.

It's something I've long worried about, particularly in the times of Paladini and Britatore - QPR turning round and saying I ain't coming in because of something I've written on LFW.

There are some really interesting points early in the thread which had me thinking. If we could just discuss it civilly, as QPR fans, without dragging it into left v right, and deliberately trying to provoke and wind each other up, there's a place for this stuff. And, hey, election year in UK and US, we're not going to be able to avoid political threads like in 2024.

But throw in Toby Young, who's divisive, and the trans issue, which some seem weirdly interested in, and it was always going to go the way it has, which is why in the end I tend to just delete this stuff. We're now into a dozen pages of round and round and round with everybody entrenching their position - like you say, we all know who we are - names we only ever see when there's one of these culture war bolox threads to go at, and WUMs very successfully baiting the easily baited.

The original premise of the thread is an interesting one, I'd encourage everybody to stick to that and keep it on topic and civil.

If you had somebody on Twitter frequently posting horrible, racist abuse of our black players, using all the unrepeatable terms you can think of, I suspect most wouldn't have a problem with that guy having his season ticket taken away.

If somebody said 'I'm not really sure this Rainbow Laces thing will ever accomplish anything', and got banned for that, I suspect most would think that completely OTT and wrong.

So where is the line in the middle?

Iā€™ve stayed out of this one so far. Regular readers will have realised my political views are usually right of centre. Iā€™m a bit of a free speech absolutist and have an additional aversion to ā€œhate speechā€ laws because they apply to only a part of the population (which jars with my idea of common citizenship and creates an incentive to fight over the bounds of protection) and move the apprehension of illegality from the wider community to the perception of an individual, in my understanding at least.

That said, so what? People donā€™t come to a football board to have their minds changed on politics. Whatā€™s more, though I have a good idea about who is likely to agree with me and who wonā€™t, it doesnā€™t mean I donā€™t enjoy reading the contributions of the other side on the other 95% of stuff thatā€™s on here - even the political stuff. Thereā€™s too much demonisation of disagreement as proof of moral failing, but also too much fear of being outcast as a dissenter.

I see this as a family gathering, bound by our irrational but unbreakable ties to a ludicrous ramshackle football club. Iā€™m well used to being the cranky loon in my family so I feel at home here. Vent away if you must, but no need to turn on our own.

It really isnā€™t a lot of the time.

This forum is horrible at times, especially after a defeat or if you say something positive or against the grain (political or QPR related) and frankly, some of the people who think they arenā€™t part of the problem really are.

It can be subtle, like constantly getting on a posterā€™s case in a snarky way if they defend Ferdinand or Ainsworth for example, or it can be clear and obvious, like some of the rancid posts still in place on this forum which I wonā€™t draw attention to.

Youā€™ll no doubt say ā€˜ah! But look at all the political threads you start!ā€™ but I havenā€™t done that in ages. Iā€™m guilty of being baited into things but that is very different.

Apart from this one, I've largely avoided political threads. I only got involved because I have direct experience of how the FSU and its many fronts operate. I should have know better and I feel bad for Clive. But you're right, it's easy to get drawn in, there are some master baiters on here.

Well Iā€™m not going to pretend Iā€™m perfect or donā€™t make mistakes in judgement sometimes, or just plain miss things, but given message boards (in general and QPR in particular) are dead or dying and yet this one is thriving numbers and poster wise after me running it for 20 years tells me I get more right than wrong. I think a load of bans, post deletion and moderation and rules would damage the board without achieving what you think or hope it would.

It wasnā€™t a comment about the success of the forum, which is self evident.

I was challenged for suggesting some universal guidelines and gave my opinion.
