| Apathy on 16:31 - May 3 by Northernr | This is what I mean about taking people with you. It's a tough league, we're at a disadvantage, we've been in it for ten years in mostly the same position. The fans have stuck with, stayed patient, said nothing. They should be going all out on the "we're in this together". We want you involved. We want to speak to you. Instead, they're doing the opposite. Wrapping the whole thing in confidentiality clauses, taking away access, hiding as much as they can. Whack the ticket prices up, send nobody out to explain it. Say it's your fault for abusing the concessions, say you were lucky to have it in the first place. Say it's up to you what sort of fan you want to be. The whole thing is basically treated like Christian's project, and we can just come and watch if we like. It's very difficult to get invested in that. To care about it. |
Short term I want to be a fan proud of my club. Given the current state of the game with it's Profit and Sustainability regulations you are pragmatic and realise it will be tough to get in and around the play off's. However you want to see your club competing, players leaving everything on the pitch, the club being run in a professional manner and certainly being fan friendly. Under the current regime it's turning more and more in to a them and us scenario, club and fans. It is difficult to invest in Christian Nourry but we will always care about our club. At this point I should say that I remain proud of the QPR Community Trust. Long term I am thinking of the future and when Mr Nourry departs. Even if he does achieve some success at the club the secrecy and the them and us scenario will remain. Long term our club is 144 years old and the Nourry era will simply be a tiny part of the clubs history.

This is exactly where I am. I don’t feel like I’m being taken along, I just feel like a very tiny cash machine for the club. And if we have another season next year that ends with 15th I’m not going to renew.

I think Hoos is the weak link in that he can be 'got at' if we really want to change things. I'm not talking about shouting at him in the street, but an organised campaign to remove him and I think he'll go. Then Nourry will be very exposed.

Hoos feels like a hereditary lord in Parliament. Like, how the hell is he still there? I'd love to be a fly on the wall at a Board meeting. The amount of bullshit Nourry is pulling out of his arse to show progress this season - Ruben, look at the stats in Clive's report!

Thanks Mart, appreciate that. Unless numpty sits near the back of F Block it’s unlikely they know me. Sadly, I’ve got a bit apathetic with it, and the only power I do have is not spending my money at the club. And spending that time and money with my family and young son. Obviously, that’s not what I want, ideally I’d get my boy a season ticket too, but like another post I’ve seen by you (which I totally agree with) we just had years and years of nothing really. Take the Warnock season and Zamora moment away, the last 30 years have been, meh, haven’t they? I imagine I’ll get pelters for saying that and not expanding on my view but there’s a tipping point for everyone surely. I went to my first game in 1986 and have had a season ticket for 20 years, it’s just I’m struggling to see under Nourry (as it’s just a project for him) how’ll we’ll really progress unless we happen upon the next Warnock and fluke it up but there’s a lot of evidence we’d balls that up! Im just getting to the point where I’ve had enough. I didn’t want to renew this year but sit with my dad and he still wanted to go but even he (his first game was the 67 league cup final!) is getting sick of it and said he won’t renew next year either - if it’s more of the same. I actually think the opposite. Hoos isn't popular and I get that but if he goes it really is Christian Nourry FC with him and Ben running the whole thing top to bottom with no checks and balances. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I’d caution against this. Whilst Hoos undoubtedly advocated for Nourry’s appointment enabling his part-time Chairman role, I’m not so sure he and the Child King see eye to eye on everything now. Recently Hoos has seemingly done a very good and important job clearing something up that needed it (for the good of the club’s reputation). And I’m led to believe he is the one keeping the close focus on the finances. And whatever you think of Hoos, he is a professional football club administrator. He’s been doing it for over 25 years at multiple clubs with a fair bit of success. And the initial feat he and Les achieved to cut the wage bill from £70m post Redknapp to £17m whilst keeping the club above water, was important. Sure, we drifted after that, we didn’t seem to have a vision, I’m sure he regrets giving the bird to that fan, and he hired Nourry. But he does know what he is doing in that CEO/Chairman capacity. I’m genuinely not sure removing him would be good for the club, whilst we have a couple of narcissistic novices left to run the show. I’d rather have him remain and act as a conduit to new leadership to run the club day to day.

Very much an outside chance of Champions league for the Bees. 3 games left and two of those are away to Liverpool and Man City. Bees have won just 4 of their last 14 games which means the Premier League is either very competitive this season or absolutely rubbish this season if you can still harbour dreams of CL football next season. 4 wins from 14 and a "chance" of Champions League football!! Not April 1 is it?

All fair points. I'm not sure we'd have stayed up if we had to significantly cut costs now though. A lot more money washing around in the championship at the moment. I can't see any other way of changing things and would you leave Hoos in charge of the recruitment process next time?

No. Personally, I would have split the CEO and DOF responsibilities when we appointed Gallen. I’d do so again now, given the chance. I’d bring in a genuinely experienced, full time football administrator on the up, potentially Mike Pink at Stevenage. Someone of that profile. I’d even consider someone like Mark Devlin, given his role in Brentford’s rise and how he knows the club. And I’d hire a DOF to lead the recruitment process and oversee all the off the pitch football matters (so basically Ben Williams’ world combined with Nourry’s recruitment/player trading and “game model” stuff). Steve Gallen would have been the right hire 3 years ago but that ship has sailed. I don’t profess to know lots of good DOFs currently but in terms of profile, I’d look for someone in L1 or L2 who is performing well and whose team(s) has improved consistently over 2-3 seasons. I think Hoos could play a valuable role in the transition to a new leadership team for a few months before stepping away entirely, or into the intended background Chairman role with a focus on finding investors.
| Apathy on 12:35 - May 4 with 1907 views | rbee | Excellent posts from both Hunter and Northern regarding Lee Hoos. I have never understood the fans hatred of Hoos. He has had a job to do at the club and done it pretty well in my opinion. I wish that he had arrived at the club sooner as his predecessor, Philip Beard, seemed to rubber stamp all of Tony Fernandes ideas resulting in us breaking the Financial Fair Play rules. I honestly don't think that would have happened with Hoos. | | | |

This is true. The owners have been good at paying the bills, but otherwise have been bad. They know nothing about running a football club and it seems don't have a clue about how to employ people with knowledge and experience.

| Apathy on 16:53 - May 3 by PunteR | I feel apathetic about football in general these days. I used to love it. If there's no plans to win anything, just kinda existing, midtable, just making up the numbers, a season can drag along. There has been some great moments this season, don't get me wrong. But it will be nice to see some progress at the club. We're just forever treading water. |
I am currently thinking that unless there is real improvement next season I will cancel my automatic renewal. It really is unacceptable to go into a season without any real motivation to finish tin the top 6 (8 next season), let alone aim for automatic promotion. I agree the draw at Preston killed off any lingering hope of a top 6 push and had they won (Bennie had a great chance at the death) who knows how they'd have performed in the remaining fixtures. But to end the remaining fixtures in the manner they did was imo a big kick in the teeth way of saying thank you for our loyal support. The club sending us patronising thank you emails just about stinks.

Cheers 7374. Glad I’m not the only one, doesn’t mean I don’t support them any less if next season is my last season as a ST holder but doubt the club will care. There’s a waiting list apparently 😆 [Post edited 4 May 23:03]

Some sensible posts on here. I think Hunter is spot on regarding Hoos being the only credible person in a responsible role atm. I do think his approach to our finances, contradicts footballs generall attitude towards, competitive risk. Probably wise long term. There just seems to be something not quite right, at the club. Theres always a discussion about attitude a soft underbelly, no real leaders, players not happy , injuries etc . Like theres no real direction for the club. That direction comes from the the owners doesn't it..? looking at obvious examples, Brentford or Wrexham, their owners spearhead the club, that winning attitude , and knowing the clubs vision ,trickles down to the players. Maybe im just naive, and I dont understand how football clubs are run, but to witness clubs similar size and budget to us, get 100% out of their players, have more success, proves we are underachieving.

I don’t get this attitude at all. I know I’m in an extreme minority of people on this MB who isn’t permanently depressed about not going up but I really don’t understand why people want validation for their decision not to renew. My experience in the Paddocks and SAR isn’t the almost universal one here on here at all. Obviously you don’t want to renew and have very reasonable justifications for that but not everyone goes to football for the same reasons and I don’t understand why you want the club to fall apart with people not renewing because they haven’t been as successful as Brentford or Fulham. That’s not to say I don’t get pissed off and frustrated with poor decisions by the club. Or that I think everything is going swimmingly. BUT I also see some positives that just don’t seem to be recognised on here at all. Like we have got more young people in the ground that have provided some well needed energy. I didn’t think I could continue to be the woman in her 60s out-shouting the rest of the crowd at the ref! We do seem to have more of the right sort on the pitch and as a proportion of the total it’s as good as we’ve had in years (that’s my perception anyway but it’s all opinions). We’re trying to get a younger group of players and build for the future in a genuine way over more than just one season and then tear it up again just to bring in expensive has beens, rinse and repeat. I love the community side of the club and feel it makes more sense of community than I recognised at other times since I’ve been a fan in the early 90s. I love the training ground and the access to it I’ve had which I’ve never had before in all my years of supporting the club. Andy Sinton and Tyler Morris. I’m not saying we need to lose all the time or to have no ambition or any of the other things I might be accused of saying, just to be clear I’m not. Just that being in the Prem is not the only thing I come to football for. And tearing up your season ticket is not the demonstration of passion for your team that some of you seem to think it is. When Sheffield Wednesday fans are cheering purely for not getting another massive points deduction next season after the season they’ve had then I think that’s the kind of fan I want to be. Thick and thin, blood and thunder, in all weathers kind of fan. Of course things need to improve. Of course we have every right to criticise. Of course we can vote with our feet if we want. Of course we should be competitive next season and right some of the obvious failures of recruitment and injury management. But for me there’s nothing more tedious on this board than these threads where people say they won’t renew and want everyone to back them up snd join them. Bores the tits off me frankly. Just my opinion obviously…. [Post edited 5 May 9:11]
