Interesting podcast with Marti where they chat for about 5 mins about his time in W12.
Dont be put of with the Norweigen & Swedish language at the beginning as all the Marti stuff is in English. Nice to see the 2 Norweigen journos of the podcast are both Rangers.

On the same podcast Rosenborg was suggested as a potential destination for Marti. They need a new coach, because the days when they competed in Europe under the legendary Nils Arne Eggen are long gone now.

I get it, but those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

That Leicester squad was assembled at great expense and many players had played at a higher level. Someone like Harry Winks should walk into most Championships starting line-up.
James, Monga and Fatawu are all good footballers.

The fact they have a poor attitude probably speaks more to the way they were managed, either by the club directly or Marti and others after him.

The nearest parallel is when QPR were relegated with a squad on paper capable of mid table.

My two pence on this. I don't think Marti should have been sacked like that, but I also don't think Stephan has done a bad job replacing him.

The last manager I liked before this was def Warburton, although I also remember a lot of dire games under him, he did speak well and I think was proven correct about the youth setup (which did for him at the time)

We're going to have a lot of dire games whoever the manager is.

The only thing I had really to add is umbrage with people diminishing Marti by saying Leicester were "established Prem players". Did any of you watch that shower of c**ts play last season? An absolute hive of scum and villainy. Just look at the goal that relegated them. They couldn't have given a solitary f**k

Yeah, I saw a goal that Swansea scored against them, where Leicester had a free kick on the edge of their box, they pass it really feebly straight back to Swansea, their player runs the length of the pitch, while Leicester players are pretty much jogging back and he either puts it in himself or passes to someone and scores. I just remember seeing that and thinking 'poor Marti', having to dead with a squad like that.

I think the thing for me isn't whether Marti's any good or not, or whether he's better than Stephan or not, that's been done to death and Hunter has it right higher up.

I think Baz is closer to the nub of the issue here. If Cifuentes is right in what he says (and I am not saying he is, but he's gone on record now saying it) and somebody at our club completely made that story up, then every QPR fan should be concerned about that right now.

My initial reaction is why would Marti lie now, what has he got to gain other than a small dig at his former employers?

Am I concerned that someone at the club might have made that story up? Yes but not to a huge degree.

In my opinion the world we live in now many of those running our Government lie to us on regular basis, twisting the truth to suit their agendas. With football the margins between success and failure are fine. The ridiculous amounts of money in the game means there is a lot at stake so untruths are common and no surprise.

I am more concerned when young, promising players are told in front of their colleagues by a senior club employee that they have no future at the club.

You mentioned that you think Marti would have done better this season, but, as has been pointed out, Madsen has been a complete different player this season and a big part of our good form. I don’t know what was going on, but there clearly wasn’t harmony during Marti’s time. I also think the fans took to him far too quickly and there’s definitely been questions asked of Stephan that weren’t or haven’t been of Marti.

I also think there’s a massive feeling of distrust towards Nourry that’s driving a lot the sentiment. You may not have been talking directly about Nourry, but he’s part of the Marti narrative.

You’re right about how the season has ended up, but for me this season when we’ve been good it’s been more enjoyable to watch than when we were good under Marti. Also, I question his judgement joining Leicester.

Would he be able to mastermind another Bobby z in the 89th though…?

I view this differently, rbee.

Employees of the club may soon be talking to us about whether we've spent the Eze money, whether we've breached P&S, whether we're moving grounds, and whether that new ground will be owned by us or by them.

These are issues of profound importance, so I would argue that we need to accept nothing but the truth at every opportunity.

In a perfect world Brian I would agree but the world isn't perfect. I doubt the truth will ever come out regarding Marti and the club so bearing that in mind I don't get too concerned about it.

At a club someone above the Head Coach wants him out so the Head Coach's days are numbered. But the Head Coach is popular with the fans, what do we tell the fans?

However, you don't forget this, you file it because one day this small thing MIGHT form a part of a bigger picture.

Choose your battles. The things you mention are more important.

Sorry Rbee, but I have say this is a contradiction:

'Am I concerned that someone at the club might have made that story up? Yes but not to a huge degree'.

You then say:

'I am more concerned when young, promising players are told in front of their colleagues by a senior club employee that they have no future at the club'

How do you know that your 2nd statement is true... Were you there? Do you know it was said for a fact or was it maybe something that someone 'may have made the story up' in which case if you are not concerned about people making stories up why does it worry you

I do agree that the world we live in is full of people peddling fake news but unless you have heard it 1st hand how can you be sure?

Not really but anyway

As far as I see it, (and I have said before about other matters) unless the person involved or people who were actually there (not someone who knows someone etc) confirms it we will never know.

The whole club upper management is really toxic and one thing we all agree on is that it needs looking at to stop these rumours and things made up to undermine people

I think the correct thing in this scenario , is those above the head coach should put the needs of the club first rather than his own ego.

What you don't do is fabricate an excuse to get rid, when everyone around QPR and in football knows it isn't quite the the truth. It doesn't add up , and Cifuentes has come out and said it blatantly isn't the truth.
We shouldn't except that at our club. Nourry should be answerable to us, the fans and the owners.

Absolutely right.

You often hear stories from old pro's saying that they didn't get along with certain teammates but at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon when they crossed the white line everyone played their best for the shirt.

But times are different now and everything is played out in public. Far from ideal but perhaps the club would have been better saying nothing when they dismissed Marti or said something like we feel Julien is better suited to implementing our vision for the club.

I find it hard to disagree with some of the things that people say on this thread, Clive, Brian, SuperHoops, PunteR etc but I don't like these threads when they meander on getting nowhere. Very important in my view that people in all walks of life are held to the truth. Cifuentes is no fool and knows what is and isn't actionable.

After all Southampton's post truth experiment seems to be not going that well.

It was patently a trumped up charge. And completely unnecessary - as has been said, it would have been simpler to have cited the old 'musical differences' chestnut. But it is part of the pattern of communication, so the cap fits.

Quite a few saying "we'll never the truth" or "the truth is probably in between"...

That would be accurate if it was just the choice between two stories, those of QPR and Cifuentes. But presumably, West Brom also know the truth.

Cifuentes sounds so comfortable saying he had no contact with West Brom, I imagine, because he knows that West Brom could corroborate that story. And it's important for him to emphasis that he didn't speak to another club directly without permission because it's his reputation that suffers.

Agents speak to clubs all the time, so if WBA made an enquiry to Cifuentes' agent, that's neither here nor there. QPR speak to the agents of contracted employees every day.

Obviously, WBA don't want a rep for tapping up managers (like QPR tapped up Ray Harford when WBA manager) but the fact they could've subsequently appointed Cifuentes when he was an entirely free agent and instead made two pretty wacky appointments instead suggests they were never seriously interested in him.

So, if QPR felt it was OK to blacken a popular manager's reputation in order to fire him for some other more obscure reason, that is worth discussing. What sort of people do that? And what else do they lie about?
