Do we think we have overreacted a tad over the first game defeat?

We haven't finished building the squad, that wasn't even our strongest team & there are 46 league games to come and yet the reaction on here has, to me, at least been a bit ott.

Thoughts?

Do you mean like we always do, or specifically more than usual?

Depends on how many more we bring in. At the moment the squad looks a bit thin to me (apart from GK where everyone but me seems to be concerned about).

A string of injuries could see us struggle badly. Need another CB and at least one more striker plus maybe someone in midfield with a bit of vision (Bring back Ale!).

I think that we are frustrated that we have conceded three goals again. Apart from that it wasn't a bad performance. There are areas that need to improve, crossing, losing possession and match fitness.

We were without Dykes, please spare him from injury tonight, and Barbet who should improve us at both ends.

Some of our approach work was very good and Carroll's performance was very encouraging.

We have three goalkeepers in our squad and two or three in the U23s, so we won't be bringing anyone in and have to find the best fit. Lumley didn't make any howlers but didn't inspire either, although he had very little to do.

There are still many weeks of the window left, so a lot can change. Us as fans would like it all done before pre- season, so that the side could be ready and at it's best for the opening day. Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that.

It looks like the do want another CB and forward in this week if possible. I don't think it makes a lot of difference for the Forest game but it may give the squad more depth over the months ahead.

As I said on another thread the highly experienced Daniel Schwaab is without a club at the moment. 32 but a very decent player and has played number 5 at most clubs. Ball playing CB but also a unit in the air. Another BFG for a season or so.

Never knowingly right.

Another defender, a midfielder and a forward according to this.

Those are the three areas we look weak in.

Come off it, kneejerk is the only accepted reaction in this wonderful brave new world of ours.

Having said that, conceding three goals is a concern (albeit not that surprising, and I don't think this is something we will fix overnight).

On the other hand I think this is a down side of Warbsball we will just have to accept until we hound him out, so let's hope we can win games 3-2, 4-3, 5-4 etc.

This is part of the

League Cup sould have been abandoned this season. The EFL can't see it, but we can, so we got out, quick ;)

Bare bones.

I agree.

For all the disappointment about losing on Saturday MW made it pretty clear that the League Cup was, particularly this year, a distraction from clubs being able to get into some kind of shape to start the league season. I don't think he or the club have lost much sleep over the loss on Saturday.

That said winning is a good habit and I noticed that a few clubs like Luton actually took it seriously and made the effort.

I do agree though. I think the League Cup has seen its day and as it is relentlessly won by Man City or alike almost pointless to try and compete. Apart from the financial rewards which this season are outweighed by the potential for many teams to lose players to injury in what will be a frantic season fixture wise.

Never knowingly right.

I stay off the web on matchdays usually as it does tend to overreact both ways win or lose- and at the moment it is a torrent because no one can go to the games and are watching it on a pc or tablet anyway.

On that has anyone worked out how to mirror the streams to a tv from your phone or ipad? it seems to have some anti mirroring software in it?

it's funny how it's a never a 'distraction' to the teams who beat us every year, nearly all worse off than us in one way or another.

this annual embarrassment has been going for a whole generation now, I'd rather someone at the club stood up and said this isn't good enough rather than try and manage fans expectations down to their level of incompetence.

If you can't get it from your gadgets, can you get it on a web tv browser. I have got this to work but it seems better for me with a laptop and HDMI cable.

I agree that it's too early to draw conclusions about how the season will pan out but the reaction to the plymouth game is warranted as the same old problems (and excuses) persist.

No. We've been beaten on two consecutive weekends by league one teams. I would say that is reason for concern.

I didn't think it was OTT. Generally, people were disappointed, the same faults as last season were back in abundance, and the absence of Dykes meant we were a bit toothless. But, overall, the fact that MW had previously indicated the League Cup wasn't a priority, meant reaction was restrained.

Yes, I'm with you there. The defence has been porous for some time but MW appears loathe to recognise, let alone fix it. To yet again blame the forwards will understandably ruffle a few supporters' feathers. It's becoming stale and frankly treats knowledgeable football fans with contempt.

I don't think it is unreasonable to express concerns about a defence that is guilty over the last two games of making exactly the same mistakes it has been making for the last 12 months. How these concerns are expressed, that may be a different matter.

A huge over reaction IMO
Self flagellation after going out of a inconvemiemt cup competition ,started pre season .
An incomplete squad , including some who might leave anyway .
The cups are low priority for us ,have been for years ,yet we are surprised .
Manning scores goal and provides crosses but cant defend ..and we are surprised .
Lumley flat footed and concedes and we are surprised .
Debutant puts a bit more effort in as its his first game and is our best player .. what a surprise .

Why not judge them after say 15 games , with transfers settled in and out
Losing any game isnt nice ,I get that but we need to wait and see IMO .

He DID say we need to be better in BOTH boxes, but that seems to have got lost in the maelstrom of criticism.
