Last season Kakay was given number 2 by MW to make a statement re Kane, but he rarely played, or at least started. I don't think - apart from a few 'superstitious or 'iconic' numbers -the players are that fussed either. | | | |

Back in the 4-4-2 days, you pretty much knew where you were when the team was read out and you’d worked out if the midfield player was wearing 4 or 6. Nowadays it’s like the lottery numbers being read out. |  |

Giving a squad number to Mahoney after he has been loaned out for the season and to Owens who is unlikely to figure unless in the EFL cup or in case of an emergency in midfield makes little sense to me.

That’s the maximum squad size no matter how many gaps in the numbers. I imagine some have been included to cover the 8 home grown players rule. As I understand it only players under 21 not named in the 25 will be able to play | | | |
