F*** off Joey.

You could never be prime minister - you let footballers out-think you and get to you. How could you handle the pressures of running a nation without throttling somebody?

In fact he's not right at all.

Most faith schools are massively oversubscribed and are doing a great job. We could actually do with more of them. He's having a go at the C of E because he hasn't got anything at all between his legs with which to take a pot at some of these Muslim schools which are going right OTT. But he's far too chicken shit and the C of E is soft and bumbly and easy pickings.

I know faith schools (RC and CoE) generally do much better academically, but with the proliferation of more Muslim schools etc (and why shouldn’t there be if we have RC and CoE schools?). I'm not sure they do well specifically because they're faith schools - I think CoE in particular might do better these days because in parts of our inner-cities at least, they probably have a more middle-class intake; they're effectively selective and if often non-religious parents will go through the farce of regular church attendance to get their kids into a school, then it follows that they'll take a serious interest in their kids' education. I’m concerned that kids who already don’t mix outside of school, will no longer even be mixing in school and thus “communities” become ever more estranged. I’ve had some interesting chats with friends from N.I and Glasgow over the years about the contribution segregated schooling might have made to the continuation of communal divisions. I’m all about mixing it up, man.

I realise Don Bartonio will have been asked to pen a piece on this, rather than the other way round, but Shirley the dippy cúnt could have just said 'No, ta' to the opportunity. No chance though, his intense megalomania wouldn't allow it.

As long as schools are based on a sound open philosophy then I don't have any problem with them. If British socialists ever got up off their arses then we could have socialist schools based on sound socialist principles and academic excellence, but they can't be arsed. Instead they'll just sit and take pots at private or faith schools, whilst they're not busying themselves making a mess of the other schools, far easier.

I've just had it up to here with Barton. i just wish that he'd f*ck off. He's only going to be trouble from hereon until he leaves in the summer.

This message board is for people to express opinions. Some of the opinions are close to my own whereas with others I disagree very strongly.
Why should the opinions of a player be treated any differently?

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one’s lifetime. (Mark Twain) Find me on twitter @derbyhoop

Because he can't even do his own job properly. He's paid to play football for 90 minutes as part of a team and to keep within the rules for the benefit of his team. If he can't manage to do that then why should anyone give any sort of f*ck what he thinks about doing someone else's job?

I suspect this nation would be run better if there was a bit more throttling and a bit less namby pambying.

What a berk.

Churchess contribute part of the running cost to the school. If you are against them that is fine but losing them will cost the state more money.

Many faith schools are on land owned by the churches eg catholic schools so if they are to be turned into non denominational ones then the state will have to buy them or pay comercial rent.

Churches particularly C of E ones are usually multi purpose now. Food banks, AA meetings, socials for the elderly, mental health, childcare etc - often in old churches or church halls. Local authoritys are so skint they are selling any halls they own.

He is on a par with that woman from the greens.

Anyway could he just perhaps keep quiet after making a tit of himself. He would probably go to his first G7 summit and nut the german chancellor for failing to pass the salt to the youthful Swedish ambassador.

"I think CoE in particular might do better these days because in parts of our inner-cities at least, they probably have a more middle-class intake; they're effectively selective and if often non-religious parents will go through the farce of regular church attendance to get their kids into a school, then it follows that they'll take a serious interest in their kids' education."

And the Konk hits the nail square on the head with that one sentence. The same goes for those Catholic schools in city areas that also often appear on the top of the league tables. However, being selective in comprehensive faith schools is limited to Religion only and not education levels. Normally a Christian based Faith school gives priority when it is oversubscribed to practicing applicants but still accepts people of other faiths and non faith applicants if there are spaces. However, in reality most of the better faith schools are over subscribed every year so they appear more elitist than the admissions criteria actually prescribes.

I would go as far to say that at those top performing schools, the teaching itself does not have to actually be of the highest quality because the raw material coming in to the schools - at least at a secondary level - is already high achieving and therefore a half decent school will ensure that they leave as high achievers. It starts at home and then continues as a partnership between school and home. It's a self fulfilling prophesy as the parents who will do all they can to get their children a good education will do what they need to do to get them in there and once the school gets and maintains a good reputation it attracts and retains better teaching staff so things continue on an even keel for long periods.

For those who have not had experience of education within a Christian school, they have to remember that in real terms, the religion and religious education side of things is not all the encompassing element of the day to day education. These schools do not indoctrinate children - ok, granted 50 years ago perhaps, but current curriculum actually ensures that religious education is broads and looks at other faiths - which is what Joey is asking for.

The irony is that at a primary school I am involved in we had a letter from a mother who demanded that if there were going to be any further RE lessons that discussed Islam then her son was to be removed from the class before the lesson started as she did not want her son being taught about Muslims.

It would be wonderful if Barton could master the basics of his main occupation (e.g. staying on the pitch for the entire game, concentrating for the duration and clearing the first man with his corners) before diversifying.

Some hope!
