Great film marred by the ending.
Imo it’s a very arrogant decision by Daniel Craig as an Executive Producer.

At any point is there a situation that Bond finds himself perilously close to death at the hands of the baddie who's master plan has that that small window of opportunity that Bond exploits to somehow manage an escape?

Does Bond have an exploding ordinarily looking biro that can kill naughty people when Bond shouts the words "biro do your thing quickly, I'm in the shit"
?

Totally agree... I've never left the cinema having watched a Bond movie feeling sombre... It just didn't feel right.

I enjoyed it but is doesn’t beat skyfall imo. Very long and the scene with Ana De Armas seemed unnecessary and didn’t move the plot along.
Lots of old school humour, probably phoebe Waller bridge to thank for that, loved the old feel to the base at the end but didn’t like the ending….but it does close the Daniel Craig chapter.
Very woke and they don’t hide it….Black lady bond was irritating and to make Q gay was just odd. I did like the nod to the last two M’s with their portraits on the wall.
Worth seeing for sure, the reviews on IMDb were like marmite which surprised me

Is there perchance a moment in the film when Bond is in a very swish bar and gets all pernickety and pedantic about how his drink is prepared?

Something along the lines of "'Ere, John, no logos in the foam please. T'riffic"?

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

haven't seen it and probably won't bother but having seen her in some other films, surely there is no such thing as an unnecessary scene with Ana De Armas.

Why’s it odd to make Q gay? The actor who plays him is gay so maybe it would have been odd to make him straight?

I think the fact ‘we have all the time in the world’ playing in the opening scene set the story that there was going to be some sadness heading our way. A nod to OHMSS.
Obvs Q is gay as I’m sure there was a part in Spectre that hinted on it.
Also sure that M saying ‘f*ck sake’ was the first time the F word has been used in a Bond film?

Got to say the end was unexpected and agree with another poster, first time I’ve left a Bond film feeling sombre. Didn’t feel quite right but that’s Craig for you and I admire him for that. Draws a line.
I do worry where the franchise is going now that Amazon own MGM studios. I fear the classic Bond style movies are over and it’s going to end up a Woke, diversity inclusive, safe non offensive next chapter.
All that said, I’m going to book up and go and see it again.

Nonsense. The sexual orientation of the actor should have no bearing on the character they play, be it a straight actor playing a gay character or visa-versa.

Previous Bond films didn't go out of their way to portray Q as straight so I don't see why the reverse should be true. Quite simply, the sexual orientation of this character is inconsequential to the plot and therefore shouldn't be a feature in the movie.

In short, this is pure virtue signalling on the part of the producers and erodes the very essence of Ian Fleming's beloved creation. As is Nomi temporarily taking on the 007 badge. If this is a nod to the future then, contrary to the latest title, it's time for the franchise to die.

Of course you’re right that the sexual orientation of an actor should have no bearing on the character they play. I was merely making the point that it’s bizarre to find it “odd” that Q was gay. It really doesn’t matter what his sexual orientation is so why mention it?
Anyway on the original point and the ending - I guess they’ll argue that they can do what they want with the plot/characters as it’s their franchise, but it does feel like a bit like an MK Dons scenario where they don’t give a monkeys about those people who have been ‘fans’ their whole lives!

Must admit to being shocked at the ending though of course it is massively nodded to earlier in the film telling us that 007 is just another agent maybe we shall finally get to see 001 maybe like in The Prisoner it will be James Bond himself. Loved some of the homages played in the film as for the Ana de Armas sequence in the film it didn't add anything to the plot but for me was gloriously Bond lots of baddies shot and the goodies prevail plus the lady in question should really have been the Bond baddie who he beds to really take us back to Sean Connery(For me the True Bond)

SPOILER ALERT.....I thought it was a great Bond movie up to that point and like you left in a sombre mood. They havent retired 007 but they have retired James Bond....how they take this forward now. The only option is have a load of prequals with a much younger actor.

I must be in the minority as I thought it was great.

It closed the loop on the Craig Bond universe and I thought it did it well. The nods to the previous movies - Dr No, Spy Who Loved Me, Only Live Twice, OHMSS, Living Daylights - were all really well done and the foreshadowing of all the time in the world was nicely done.

I liked the allusion to family - Bloefeld, the MI6 'family' - was skilfully done throughout and so much better than the Spectre farce.

Does it matter if Q is gay? In this Craig universe things are unique - remember the suggestion Bond had had male relations when being interrogated by Bardem's Silva? Nothing like that had been suggested in any Bond film before and no-one made an issue of it then.

Yes it's a series of set pieces but that episodic nature doesn't harm the narrative. I enjoyed the Ana de Armas sequence. Previous Bonds would have seduced her and done the killing himself. This was representative of the times, as all Bond films have been, and I liked the comic approach to it.

Perfect? Hell no but better than Question of Sport by a mile and as good as Skyfall.

I also liked the fact that the titles did, at the very end, say unequivocally 'James Bond WIll Return' .

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

Just back.

Loved it of course but too much action and not enough dialogue and coherent plot.

The girl 007 didn't really add much, seemed a bit contrived. The blond American bad guy with Felix Leiter was a crap character.

Also still don't understand how Blofeld communicated to his party where all of Spectre got killed by the switched virus.

Craig is a truly exceptional Bond though and it'll take someone exceptional to fill his boots.

So yes a great 2.75 hours and i'd score it 7/10 but not a patch on Casino Royale which was 9/10 for me.

I think the ending fits because unlike all the previous Bond films the 5 with Craig have gone for continuity, starting with his emergence as a Double O and carrying something forward from each film. And when they do the next Bond with a new actor they'll either go back to making everything a standalone story such that the films could take place in any order, or they'll do a standalone continuity across however many films. Doesn't really matter. Whether his escape is explained or not, we all know that Bond is going to be in another film alive and well. That lessened the impact of the ending here, but it was nice just to hear Louis Armstrong again anyway.

I thought this was easily my favourite or the five. Rami Malek wasn't given the wonderful quality of material that Javier Bardem had with which he dragged Skyfall up from mediocre to decent, but as a whole this film worked so much better than that, and indeed the other Craig films.
