This is the least hype I've ever seen around an England team at a tournament.
England have been disappointing for so long, always great individual players but a sh*t team, wild expectations and a toxic media to boot. Southgate era was the first time I've felt good about England since Euro 96. It's going to be really tough for Tuchel to bring back those vibes. I still think it's a really strange appointment, but good luck to him!
Possibly a bit harsh given they made 2 of the last 3 major tournament finals.

Watched the England friendly last night. Limited opposition but England looked decent. Players playing in their correct positions and knowing their roles.
Likelihood is we crash out to Mexico in L16 or Brazil in QF's, but with a bit of luck we can get to the semis and from there we have the tools to do something

Yeah exactly what I thought. Left back at left back, central midfielders in central midfield. I also liked fact that Kane would go further back and then you’d have runners ahead of him to pick pass. Bit like seemed to be when he plays for Bayern. Before when he used to do that there would be a big gaping hole up front.

Wow, that is a fabulous prediction tool, thanks for posting .
Had a quick stab at it and - look away now, those of you who are of a nervous disposition - I have England losing to France in the final and Portugal coming third ahead of Belgium.
I'm sure it will pan out completely differently .
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

I thought it was all about what bullies the Yanks are and human rights issues of referees!!!!
Think I've said in these here tombs that I'm not really felling this World Cup. No oompfhh for it for the first time ever..... distinct lack of country colours flying round my way (even from lamposts).
However.... last night I filled in a few predictor competitons, entered some work sweepstakes and watched second half of the friendly after I finished work. There's a little something stirring!!! I have England to go out in R32
Looking forward to it all starting now despite the KO times and all the background noise to it.
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

England played well, really looking forward to this tournament. I watched the Doc on youtube that England have done about the road to the World Cup, can really see what Tuchel is trying to do
It will be tough to get past Mexico in their own country but I fancy us to reach the Q/F and from then anything can happen

The cameraman sticking his camera up the nose of a player singing his National Anthem.
I've been a right cynical fùcker about this world cup - fùck Infantino, fùck Trump, fùck FIFA, fùck ITV and their Brooklyn studio, fùck the opening ceremonies, fùck football, fùck footballers and fùck tournaments.
Two passes in and I'm hooked and will probably watch every match - it's like footballing crack.

I thought Eze had a good game last night and looked the business.
I thought he was a revelation playing in central midfield when he came on for Rice. Carried it well, played two fantastically incisive forward passes that split Costa Rica open and created two great chances, involved in lots of tidy triangles and took up great positions to get away about 4 shots (all blocked but one with the arm for the pen).
Was beginning to wonder why he’d been taken as 3rd choice left winger and 3rd choice “10” but he might be the second choice behind Rice. Massively improves England’s forward play, even if he’s a bit lost out of possession.

Ah, my comment was poorly written. What I was trying to say was that before Southgate England had been a bit sh*te. Great players, toxic media, high expectations, fractured team..etc. Then Southgate came along and got a good feeling back around England IMO. As you say, he got us to 2 out 3 of the last major tournament finals. I think that’s a tough act for Tuchel to follow.

I've seen water breaks at Loftus Road so have to say it's pretty sensible to do this when the heat is going to be ridiculous this tournament
Dave, it’s for the US TV networks.
In the US they went straight to adverts as soon as the water breaks happen.
US networks almost never go 45mins without adverts across any channel or sport.
Infantino has sold the game’s soul.
It actually will change the game. Where the temps aren’t ridiculous it will enable teams to press for longer, and it may cause a delay in subs. It probably benefits the smaller sides as the manager gets two more chances to get messages to the side and change things.
Don’t like them. And think the clock should stop, not have the 3 mins bolted on as injury time.
