Hmmm yes if Joe Walsh was guaranteed No.1, you'd think he would have appeared in those shirts.

| Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 15:46 - Jun 16 with 7097 views | Stainrod | Tentatively encouraged by the more plausible rumours. We seem to be in the market for a left back and goalkeeper which are by far the two most glaring gaps in our squad. Some years it has almost seemed like we have wilfully focused on areas we are well stocked and ignored the weak areas. Signs of learning? All those we are linked with look decent if mainly unspectacular upgrades (though the giant goalkeeper sounds very promising). I would also like a holding midfielder who can pass a ball forwards but unless/ until we move on Varane and/ or Field, there probably isn't much the club can do there at present. | | | |
| Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 15:56 - Jun 16 with 7006 views | aston_hoop | I read it was down to us and Millwall for French right back Nolan Galves too, hopefully Nourry's Gallic charm outshines Gallen's West London wit to nab this one Mainly because a mate of mine, who I trust, reckons he's quality. So many times we have brought in players recently that have flopped dreadfully. Celar, Madsen (last season), Taylor Richards, Tyler Roberts, Ethan Laird, Andre Dozzell, Obikwu or others that were simply mediocre, Amos, Dembele, Saito, Heverton Santos, Larkeche, Esquerdinha- its a high hit rate of below average success... | |

A bit harsh on some there, Saito, Dembele are good enough on their day, just need more days and a repaired ACL. We haven’t seen Obikwu play yet to be able to have an opinion. You could list the positives and come up with a similar number. I do think we are learning by those mistakes . Luke Amos was good enough unfortunately his ACL’s weren’t. Fingers crossed numpty.

It says a lot about us as a club at the moment that a French player would rather sign for Millwall than a club with a French manager. You would think a French player would like the comfort of having a French speaking Coupe de France winning manager to play under. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Were we really interested? RB isn't our priority. LB and keeper are. Limited budget can't upgrade every position. Mbengue has a lot of positives, we just need to get him a few more sessions with the sports shrink and a few videos of how to cross a ball. He gets it and I really like him.

Seeing as we don't know any of the facts it says nothing. On the second point, the manager could be gone within months of a player signing a 3/4 year contract and maybe he's comfortable with English.

Yes that's more how I see it. Its a mixed bag for sure. But last season we also signed not one but two strikers who SCORE GOALS. When had we last managed that? Madsen's redemption story surely teaches us (me included) not to rush to judgement. Dembele, Poku and Saito all have a lot to prove this season for sure - particularly as they seem to have been bought as much for potential re-sale value as their immediate utility to the team. But I suspect every club signs loads of duds. Look at the lengthy release list from every club every season. We are just more aware of our duds. I would be interested to know from fans of other clubs around our level what their success rate is. Clearly if you spend £30m on a player they need to be good; a free transfer is going to be a bit more trial and error. Where I think there has been progress is realising (belatedly) the brutality of the Championship: hence we are apparently in for a tough-nut Dutch left back. A young Brazilian or Aussie has to possess truly exceptional ability to make up for what is sometimes lacking physically owing to their apprenticeships back home. Fewer Brazilians, fewer dwarfs; more giants built like brick out houses please. We have some finesse in this team but not enough muscle. [Post edited 17 Jun 12:21]

The crossing thing is quickly resolved by moving whomever he's aiming for in the Upper Loft and School End, to the lower stands. The head shrink thing is trickier. Personally, I think we'd see faster and more sustainable results if 20 minutes before the k.o. and at HT, we sat him down with a nice calming cup of Earl Grey, and encouraged him to sip it slowly.

'Neil Warnock is set to be named [Insert club name] new manager.' Stick enough club names in, one will be correct every 18-24 months .

Are the positives you speak of drug test results?! I love a charecter as much as the next man and far too much of the football world is robotic these days. There are limits. Needs a couple of proper monster performances early season to win me fully over. (Wrexham still fresh in the head)

Seems a little odd to me. We've just released Hayden, who is the same age; we've still got Field. Would he be an improvement on what we have/had?

I do wonder about that particular site as most of its reports are just names picked out of nowhere with no links to reality in anyways. Sure Clive and others may know, but if an internet "journalist" constantly just prints reports that are purely specualtion with absolutely zero reports that have any basis in truth at all. Are there ways they can be picked up by some kind of journailstic ombudsman closing the site down. Appreciate if you look at a lot of tabloid nonsense over many years, not exactly suggesting there is a great deal of control being implemented forever. The guy that pubishes his ideas under the guise of being a journalist, might as well really be any one of us on here. [Post edited 17 Jun 17:59]

Hayden was the oldest 30-year-old we’ve ever had so I’d be inclined to say yes.
