Normally get down after a 1-4 beating but in all honesty I think old age as mellowed me.... and tonight it is basically 🤷 2 of the goal were really unfortunate... the third was poor defending and the 4th was just the icing on the cake for them But I guess the real reason for the "it is what it is" is modern football. Today that had someone like Ward-Prowse for example.... even in his 30s this guy is far too good for the championship... he was totally in charge.... and we never laid a glove on him... not through lack of trying but just far too good for us Yes they will most likely p!ss the league... and leave us far behind... and next year there will be Hull or perhaps another established prem club that comes down... who will again p!ss the league and we carry on ad infinitum

I always think Ward-Prowse sounds like an Attorney-at-Law firm in Drury Lane in Victorian times.

| southampton... on 06:27 - Nov 1 with 1273 views | PlanetHonneywood | First half we failed to capitalise on our play which was, at times, threatening to run amok. Second half they totally capitalised on their play, and they ran amok. Ok, maybe I'm overstating our first half, but the fact was, there were fine margins which, if you don't cash in when you're doing well, you're inevitably going to pay against teams like Soton in this division. Like the Brum game: we showed enough about us. But we didn't cash in when chances appeared and paid for sloppyness. We're still doing ok, and we're still good to watch. | |

| southampton... on 06:42 - Nov 1 with 1249 views | GaryBannister86 | A sobering trip really. Thought we did fine for most of the first half but if ever the cliche that the opposition look like scoring every time they attack was relevant, it was here. We played so high and although it was admirable to give it such a go, we were so exposed. As much as I like him, Adamson and his positioning was given a torrid time, Kemper was also put under the pump and we did concede some really sloppy goals. Second half I thought we were simply outclassed by a far better team. Pleased for Kone, who battled valiantly, Charles was really solid, the others did their best but the weakness of Vale and then Saito in big away games remains painfully obvious. Then you leave and walk around their cavernous plot of land, all the hospitality and facilities and space....(even though the stadium itself is starting to age a little)....and I just can't quite believe I am almost certainly never going to see that at QPR, as joyous as Loftus Road can be. No bigger a club than us really and yet packing in 30,000 no bother having averaged pretty similar crowds to us in the 90s. No need to wonder why they keep doing so much better than us, season after season. Not sparking yet another ground debate but (in my opinion) unless we are ever lucky enough to have an ownership that can have more of a long-term vision than just trying to get to the PL for one season and keeping the lights on in the meantime, we're just going to get left further and further behind. They moved there 25 years ago, for god's sake. [Post edited 1 Nov 6:50]

Exactly, muchacho! When GB86 wakes from his slumbers and the aroma from his morning arabica wafts through his nostrils, he'll realise some inalienable facts. First, he was built on the brilliance of Bowles; the magic of Marsh; the sheer unadulterated tenacity of Taarabt, and that he stands tall on the shoulders of the men of 67! His character is chiseled from the same granite that made Jimmy Dunne. When he sashays into the room, then it should be with the swagger of Simon Stainrod, probably wearing a fedora, and that if he does this in Southampton, then he is doing it in front of men who still find Benny Hill hilarious and fantasise over an ugly rotund Channel islander, who simply isn't fit to look in the same mirror as Gorgeous Ronnie. GaryBannister 86 might be experiencing early-onset manopause, but he should do so in the full knowledge, heart, and belief of a man who is: QPR, with all that this entails and all the glory that it will shower upon him one day soon!

That made me snort my vanilla foam latte over my keyboard! I was a student in Southampton in the early 90s so believe me it isn't jealousy and I don't want us to be them in any way. As I age into oblivion though, the frustration of being structurally and financially miles behind clubs we used to dick over on a regular basis....gets so frustrating. But I'm with you, andropause or not.

And yet it is Bournemouth with a ground capacity of 12k just down the coast who sit at 7th in the PL, their 9th season out of the last 11 at that level, while Southampton with their - checks notes - "cavernous plot of land, all the hospitality and facilities" - and 30k stadium sit in the EFL (not to mention all those other clubs in the middle of nowhere with massive stadiums, hotels, corporate spaces like Leicester, Stoke, Bolton, etc, etc). QPR, if they ever get their best team out consistently, have just as good a chance as punching above their weight in the PL as Bournemouth, Brentford. This is a PL with those clubs plus Fulham, Cov, Ipswich. It's organisational, not structural. Get the 1st team out and we can compete. Fixing the sports science department + recruitment is more likely than building a brand new stadium at a cost if £100s of millions in London with 30k capacity. I may live to see the first succeed; the later will take forever and guarantees nothing. If it's the 30k modern stadium on a "cavernous plot" with corporate facilities that's so sexy, Reading is not that far away and they even play in hoops (sort of).

BOS and Manning not considered good enough in a team burnt out by January. Not saying that Manning would have stayed, as his agent obviously makes a lot of money out of running down contracts . They’re streets ahead of everyone else but will struggle in the premier leauge.

Sorry, are you saying I should f*** off and support Reading? Because I think that sadly Loftus Road is holding us back more and more and we have to get with the times? Just a difference of opinion mate. You've picked out the worst examples, ignoring the fact that Leicester....er won the Premier League and the FA Cup. If only they had kept at Filbert Street, eh? Of course it's no guarantee. I would argue it's more guaranteed that if we do nothing on the ground front we will fall yet further behind, year after year.

No, I'm saying that they have all those facilities you reckon are holding QPR back and are currently enjoying their third consecutive season in the third tier - alongside Leicester, yes, who may well have won the PL in a new stadium ten years ago but what warmth do they get from that now watching Russell Martin-ball draw 2-2 at home to Stevenage? They're now 10th in L1, lower than Stockport (capacity 10k), Cambridge (8k), Luton (12k)... Get with the times? Yeah, baby, get with it, get a new stadium built with sexy conferencing suites at a cost of £100s millions in some undetermined location and QPR can finally compete with the likes of Bolton, Reading, Leicester, Stoke, Wigan... West Ham lost 1-3 at home in front of 61k furious Hammers in the Championship yesterday. What do they need to compete, to not be held back? Bournemouth meanwhile won 2-0 at home to Leeds in front of 12k. 17k in to see Brentford up to 6th in the PL, one place above Bournemouth. Stadiums win nothing. Identity, marginal playing gains are everything. We're failing on the second point year after year. When the new stadium arrives - as it will in time - and QPR remain the third best-placed team in West London, what will fans then blame?
| southampton... on 11:26 - Nov 1 with 471 views | francisbowles | Southampton is a one league club city and surrounding area with a population of over 1.2 million in the 2021 census. The broader Shepherds Bush area has a population of 40,000 and has three other clubs within five miles and several others within about 10 or so miles. I know times have changed and we regularly sell out 17,000 but even in 75/76 we only got above 25000 when we had a really big match and hoards of away fans. It's a bit simplistic as lots of fans travel much further but it's probably much easier for Southampton to fill 30,000. | | | |

I imagine Leicester fans get plenty of warmth from winning the FA Cup and Premier League whilst I get my comfort from the odd exciting win in the Championship. Ooooo. We're not all these other clubs. I don't care about conferencing we will never fill. But we would have better hospitality, facilities and revenue streams and a better capacity. And Loftus Road is decrepit. Might be great and ours but we can't do nothing much longer, it won't be safe. I wholeheartedly agree with your other points, but I think we need to do both all that and sort the stadium. The reason why QPR were relegated from the PL, then bounced back and were relegated immediately with catastrophic results had nothing to do with the stadium. It had every single last thing to do with appalling management and governance of the club from top to bottom. The reason why Bournemouth have survived and thrived in the PL for most part of a decade, including one bounce back, in a 12k stadium is because they have great governance. Sunderland's 40k stadium may not save them this season. No, we're not all those other clubs. But in a new stadium in, I dunno, Hillingdon we will be. "It won't be safe". That's total nonsense. Don't worry, though, your dreams will come true sooner than you imagine (well, the announcement will). Will it improve the team, the injury record, the position, the club? It will not, as all my examples prove. Every single last West Ham fan would swap their ground for Upton Park, and we will be pining for Loftus Road of old just as much when your dreams come true. While still being the 39th best team in the pyramid because, to paraphrase Popeye, we are what we are.

You do over dramatise what I say. I would be absolutely gutted to leave Loftus Road, but it's getting to the point where something has to be done. I usually do talk nonsense, agreed, but I don't share your confidence that the ground would stay safe. If there is no investment in things like the away concourse, then in a few years....all the best. I don't want to move, I want to stay. I want us to rebuild LR in the right way, but if that is impossible then for me, time is fast running out to do something. Anyway, you seem to know that the Air Asia Superdome 2.0 is about to be announced, so I (genuinely) bow to your knowledge!
