The only one I might quibble with would be Faurlin. As great as he was - and I have him in my team of my lifetime, Faurlin had less impact because of his injuries than he would have had otherwise. Wilkins was imperious for us over five years, shaped the culture of our club, brought existing players to new levels and young players to rarified heights. He, as much as Howe or Francis, led us to one of the greatest eras in our history.
I'd give him the shout. And he'd be captain. |  |

Thanks for this Mel. It's refreshing to hear about some of the less well known ex-QPR players, at least to me.
I'd have to agree with Brian that Wilkins would have to be shoehorned in the team for me. I just loved watching him play.
One other thing: surely you were joking about Mark Hughes as manager? Yes, you must be, that would be likely nominating Hately or Dowie as our best strikers. Just no. |  | | |

Just refreshed my memory by looking up Evelyn Lintott and it seems he only played 32 games for us between 1907 and 1908 and played for England seven times between 1908 and 1909.
I appreciate the significance of him being our first International player (or English International, certainly) but 32 appearances in one or two seasons, I think, would put him below many other worthy candidates in my view. | |

Sorry Brian but he may well have stayed for longer if Rangers weren't stiffed by the Football League and elected in 1908.
Not just dying on the Somme but being the first footballer to be commissioned during the war.

Fair point about him leaving in 1908 due to us being done by the League, I'd forgotten that.
I personally wouldn't factor military matters into judgement about who our best eleven players were, though. It shouldn't be a factor.
And after his one season with us he seems to have played for Bradford in the first division for four years, finishing fifth once and winning the FA Cup in 2011. At the age of 28 he dropped down a division to Leeds City and at 29, in 1913, his records disappear.

That was a team in decline though as the previous season they only won one of the first eleven. Gerry left for Spurs, Wilkins came back from Palace and took us to 8th. We flirted with Eufa qualification.
Then Ferdinand left and yes he (RW) shares some of the blame for his buys, but Les was our main man. Wonder if he would still have gone if we had qualified for Europe. [Post edited 11 Apr 2020 15:36]

At the time of his injury, Argentina were looking to play him instead of Mascherano (spelling?). That is how good he was!
