This is the National Hockey League's concussion protocol. It's been in place since 2011:
"Players suspected of having a concussion will be removed from the game and sent to a quiet place free from distraction so they can be examined by the on-site team physician. The physician will use the Sports Concussion Assessment Tool test to evaluate the player. Symptoms include loss of consciousness, motor incoordination or balance problems, a blank or vacant look, slow to get up after a hit to the head, disorientation, clutching of the head after a hit or visible facial injury in combination with another symptom.
In the past, a player suspected of having sustained a concussion would be evaluated by the team's trainer or a doctor in the bench area."
Yes, ice-hockey is more obviously dangerous than football, but concussions can be tricky beasts. My wife still has occasional issues from hitting her head in a fall five years ago. I agree with Clive. If you go down with head injury you're out of the match. doesn't matter when it happens, and if there are no subs left that's too bad. In the NHL players are in darkened room for a couple of hours before they're allowed out, whatever the medics say. [Post edited 18 Aug 2022 3:50]

My 17 year old son was raging after the game about the referee, Dykes, the midfield, the list went on. He turned to me and asked 'why dont you get angry?'. I turned shrugged and said 'its QPR, seen it before'.
We were both really looking forward to the game, but that was so so poor it was dispiriting I couldn't get angry. Still we'll be there Saturday to watch Washington score no doubt.

On a wider note...I don't think I have ever felt as out of step with this site in terms of reaction to a match. Was I happy? Of course not. I have a 250 mile round trip for home games, and got home at 1.45am. However, I've been quite taken aback by how dreadful everyone seems to think the performance was.
Firstly, I was relatively entertained by the game. Far from a classic, of course, but I've seen way worse.
Secondly - I thought it looked like what it was, namely two teams who finished midtable last season, under new management, a few injuries / new signings, finding their way into a new season.
Thirdly, Dykes takes just one of his first half chances, Bowler's initial blocked shot lands a foot either way of where it did....well, fine margins and all that.
Odds on at any given time we'll have injuries (as will everyone else), but I genuinely came away thinking I'd seen encouraging signs of where this team might get to with a cleaner bill of health and a bit longer with their new coach.
So while it's not quite "roll on Saturday, can't wait!", I'm far from panic mode. My biggest concern is that if we get, say, 4 points or less from the next 3 games, some fans will really start to get on Beale's case, with many clearly thinking Tuesday night was "only Blackpool", and the next two home games are "only Rotherham" and "only Hull". As I mentioned above other QPR sides have lost plenty of home games like this, it's nothing new. The reaction does seem even more knee-jerk than usual, I don't know if it's due to burgling a point at Sunderland everyone thought having two home games this week will automatically guarantee us six points? Football doesn't work that way, unfortunately.

That's largely where I am too.
I actually enjoyed the first half, it was two teams pressing hard and pinging the ball around at high speed. I just thought Blackpool were slightly better at both than us. And we missed our chances.
The second half lacked urgency, definitely. And I'm still really worried about the shape.
But I thought it was better than at Sunderland and Laird was a fine addition.
No panic from me just yet. | |

No panic yet but we need to get through this early part of the season until everyone is fit and cant really afford to piss away points as we did the other night, should have been bare minimum a draw from that game.

Yes, I too have jump on the "don't panic Cpt Manwaring" bandwagon.
People can't realistically expect the club to change managers at the end of the season and the new guy get the team coming out all guns blazing and the perfect team by mid-August.
It is clear that we are already missing Willock and Amos and we have seen practically nothing of JCS, so once they are back, then with what I have seen of Roberts I think we might be ok with him, Chair and Willock supporting an out and out striker - which is still the stumbling block.
Will Warbs be proven wrong that it is too soon for Armstrong to be the new messiah and will be just "burst on to the scene" (aka Micah Richards) and have the maturity to play in the first team regularly without actually killing someone with an attempted overhead kick. |  |

Agreed - good post. I’ve seen a lot worse and the effort levels, including Dykes, was good IMO. What I was most annoyed about was the time (or lack of) added on at the end and some of the time wasting going on. It doesn’t bode well though as with this team, early in the season, I can see a lot worse being dished out by us so makes me worried of what the reaction will be when we do. We’re learning and I think in time this team will grow and be decent but it won’t if so many of us continue to get so easily fcked off. | | | |

The amount of saves is a red hearing we had 2/3 very good chances in the 2nd half but didn't get any on target
Dykes being on his heels and not moving from pen spot when balls trickles past the six yard box 1, Armstrong header 2 and Armstrong dragging shot wide 3 sure there was more but I haven't watched any highlights again
Like I said massive hangover on this site from last season.

made the 150 mile round journey to watch as I missed Boro and can't make Saturday. I thought we were pretty poor and whilst others might be giving a bit of slack, this was Blackpool, not Norwich.
I thought they looked capable of hurting us whenever they felt the need and our build up play from the back was so laboured they had plenty of time to set themselves every time.
i know the game hinges on fine margins, but i'd hope that wouldn't need to be the case against these guys, who played very well and didn't look particularity troubled by most of our play.
4 for the ref was generous

I agree about the lack of urgency. We’ve been saying that about this side for a few years now and it’s evident whether we win, lose or draw.
I think it’s just this side’s style and it can be frustrating especially in games like Tuesday but I don’t think there are any easy answers. We can’t change all the players and even if we did who’s to say we’d be able to replace them with better players.
We’re a mid table team with the potential to be playoff contenders if we can get all our players fit and firing. If we can’t do that then we have potential to struggle. The trick is to not get too carried away when we’re doing well and not panic when we’re losing. I don’t expect everyone will agree with me about that though. |  |

Well done for highlighted the 'head' injury scenario and potential solution. If only those that are in power could read it.
I think we have to scrap for every point we can get until we can field an X1 close to our potential best. IMHO it's a little too early to start Sinclair Armstrong, lets keep increasing the minutes he gets and hope he can get a goal or two before he is ready for 90 mins. I was impressed how he bullied the centre backs when he came on, after they had got used to dominating our attack. Laird, promising but needs a bit more strength in the tackle. Said elsewhere, Paal really struggled with trying to force Bowler wide, it might have been an idea to replace him with Kakay who is strong in the tackle with his right foot, if Bowler did come inside. | | | |
