It is with a heavy heart and, I'm not ashamed to admit,a salty tear in either eye that I type this
I've just learnt of the passing of another Ranger
Tom Downie will be a face many of you will be familiar with if not the name.
If any of you have ever had the pleasure to be in any of the Crown & Sceptre, the Queen Adelaide, the Springbok or any of the previous watering holes used by the LSA in the years then you'd know Tom.
He's been on a good few away days with our little mob and despite being the elder statesman he could still cut it with the best of us even giving us 20+ years. The tale of him pre-match v Notts County where his wit and charm bedazzled the girls from the local knicker factory will remain the stuff of legend
Tom loved a pint but he loved the R's more. He'd analyse games and his sport seemed to be to destroy any right back wearing blue and white hoops!!! He had been an Upper Loft fixture for as long as I can remember and I'll miss his silver haired wry grin and wit.
Tom leaves a wife, two sons, a daughter and grand kids as well as his extended family and friends plus an empty seat in the Upper Loft.
I'm proud to call his eldest son, Mark, one of my dearest friends and my heartfelt sympathies go out to him, Jason, their sister and Henry etc. I'm proud to have met and known Tom through this crazy circus of a club.
