It's a scandalous decision and another kick in the balls for smaller clubs. There have been many magical cup replays involving teams from the lower echelons of the FL and non-league and many clubs have benefitted massively from the money they have earned from favourable draws.
I have no idea what the FA are thinking by doing this. It penalises the very clubs that need it most. |  |

Oh come on, we all need to have more empathy for these premier league teams. They have so many games to play, so they obviously can't have replays. They need the time off to bring football to Saudi Arabia, China the USA. Those poor supporters who don't get to see their teams play and will pay $1000's of dollars for the privilege. |  | | |

And you can bet the Championship will get 90% of that with the lower echelons of the National League getting about 50 quid and a warm handshake to cover the cost of travelling from Cornwall to Blyth.. it would be more cost effective to just concede at round 1. |  | | |

When we drew with Man U at Old Trafford in the League Cup no one complained there wasn't a replay. It will soon just become the norm that its 90 mins (maybe extra time) then penalties in the FA Cup. Obviously lots of nostalgia about replays of the past but once we've had a few seasons without them it will be forgotten. We might have knocked out Spurs had it gone to pens and been in an FA Cup Quarter Final instead of -4 temps at Wembley and a treacherous journey to London and back. |  |

They’ve demeaned the competition for years anyway by playing weakened teams.

That would be good if all the EFL teams did that but the easiest way to have sorted this would be to ask the clubs playing each other whether they want a replay. If one team says no then so be it.
That could lead second replays and the like. It would generate the teams who need it a few bob extra and keep the sports channels happy too. |  |

Alternatively, without the income from the Spurs (and Newcastle two years later) replay we could have been in even bigger financial trouble earlier than we were.

Another reason why I am slowly falling out of love with the beautiful game.
Replays are part of the beauty of the FA cup. It's a historic competition that is slowly being turned into a money earner for the bigger clubs.
Relays have been reduced to just one replay after the times when fourth round matches couldn't go ahead because of so many replays of third round matches.
I understand that was a good decision. However, to remove a potential income earner for smaller clubs and a banana skin for bigger clubs ruins the FA cup |  |

From the FA's website...lots of stuff about the romance of the competition, exactly what their latest edict seeks to put an end to.....What a shower they are. ( my thoughts in brackets)

Excellent to see the continuing inconsistent rules in play - penalising Coventry for a marginal (though correct) offside, but failing abysmally to spot United's keeper taking a massive step forward before saving one spot kick. It should have been retaken. |  | | |
